A Season of Giving ~ We’re on the Thrive Team!

We’re entering into a season of Giving. A time for celebration and sharing.

And here, At the Picket Fence, we want to let you know about our latest collaboration.

Perhaps our most meaningful to date.

We were thrilled and honored to be asked by our dear friend Susan from the blog From My Place to Yours to be among the charter members of the Thrive Team of Hope Unlimited For Children!

Thrive Team: Changing the World One Child at a time.

“For millions of abandoned and exploited orphans in Brazil, the chance to thrive is no more than an illusory dream. Instead, their lives are filled with pain, hunger, fear, and desperation. Lives without the chance to be children.

But for many of these children, there is Hope. The chance to thrive is exactly what Hope Unlimited for Children brings to over 1,200 children every day. Since 1991, Hope Unlimited has provided the very best in residential care and day programming for mortally at-risk children. The children of Hope receive every tool they need to thrive: education, family, home, recreation, friends, role models, and spiritual formation. Hope.”

Unlike other countries, the government of Brazil expressly prohibits an individual child from being linked to a sponsor. So, the incredible folks at Hope Unlimited have developed program THRIVE to help transform these young lives and give them “hope” for a future.

Here’s a little bit more about just what Hope Unlimited provides for these children:

“In the rescue phase, children are referred to Hope by the Brazilian courts, who have determined that these children are at mortal risk. Hope staff provides immediate emotional support, psychological and medical care, and spiritual healing. In the transformation phase (four to eight years), the child is guided through educational programs, and vocational coursework, within the context of family life. In the re-entry phase, Hope’s young men and women intern with local businesses for a year and live at a transition home for six months. Upon graduation (around the age of 18) each Hope student is guaranteed a job and is given ongoing support through the Graduate Center. Each graduate receives basic household furnishings and a complete set of tools for the trade he or she has learned.”

“Success: In the two decades since Hope was founded, more than 1,000 children have gone through our program. Hope Unlimited currently cares for roughly 1,000 children at four locations (approximately 500 residential and 500 day students), and serves hundreds of graduates and family members through various outreach programs, and, beginning in spring 2009, serves over five hundred children in a new preschool located in the Rosalina Slum. Most important, 75% of our graduates are in stable living situations, meaningfully employed and active in a local church.”

So, in this season of giving, we are asking if you would like to help change a child’s life and become a member of the Thrive Team too?

It’s easy! For only $35 a month you can bring hope to a child in need and give them a chance…the chance to Thrive!

“The children of Hope receive every tool they need to thrive: education, family, home, recreation, friends, role models, and spiritual formation. Hope.”

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me… (vs. 40)…I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of these brothers/sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25: 35,36,40

  1. This sounds like a great organization. We sponsor a missionary family and the children sponsor a child through “Bridge of Hope” with Gospel for Asia. It is always such a blessing when we are able to give out of our abundance that we have been so graciously blessed with. Thank you for sharing this, Heather and Vanessa.
    Have a Blessed week!!

  2. Great post, ladies. On behalf of myself, the children in Brazil, and the entire Hope family, thank you for joining the Thrive Team! Mostly, thank you for being women who will reach beyond yourselves to care for “the least of these” — and encourage others to do the same. Hopefully the wonderful readers At The Picket Fence will follow your example. You’re the best!
