Good morning friends, and thank you for meeting me (Julie) here today, At the Picket Fence. In case you didn’t know, I am a monthly contributor here for Vanessa & Heather and I am very honored to be a part of their team. If you are interested in following my blog where I am busy decorating & cooking in Michigan, you can follow along here —-> Redhead Can Decorate. Since we are in the middle of Summer, I thought today might be the perfect time to share my Mom’s homemade “Sun Tea Recipe” and story with you. I hope you are thirsty.
Just in time for your New Year’s Eve celebrations, I’m sharing with you Kentucky Champagne…one of my favorites!
Can you believe it’s almost the end of 2016?! Whew! It’s been a year of ups and downs, high and lows but through it all we’ve loved visiting with you each week, here at the picket fence! Whatever your New Year’s Eve plans hold, staying in cozy by the fire or celebrating out on the town with friends and family, know we are virtually toasting in 2017 with you! At our home we love celebrating the arrival of the new year with Kentucky Champagne!
*I have the most delicious apple hazelnut cocktail to share with you today!*
I’ve always known what a privilege is to call the Willamette Valley home. I mean, this place is truly beautiful. Rolling hills of farmland and vineyards with a river winding it’s way through the landscape. And I’m not saying that we really need anyone from the ‘outside’ confirming what we already know.
Does anyone else find themselves feeling so smug as you get everything checked off your grocery list for upcoming holiday meals only to get home and realize that while you may have the ingredients for a grand meal in a few days, somehow you’ve managed to make it home from the store without putting anything in your cart for the dinners you are expected to prepare leading up to that day!
“For it is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when it’s mighty Founder was a child Himself.” ~ Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol
This past weekend was one of those weekends that you remember for years to come. Not because anything especially spectacular happened. In fact, it felt so incredibly ordinary. And yet there was also something extraordinary about it.
What would seem like a lot of ‘nothing’ to some, felt like a whole lot of ‘something’ to us.
Whenever I even see the word ‘cocktail’ I immediately want to go put on a flouncy outfit, swipe some bright red lipstick over my lips and slip my feet into stiletto heels.
There is just something about that word that makes you feel like you should be in an episode of ‘Mad Men’, don’t you think?
Or maybe flinging bottles behind the bar with Tom Cruise. 😉
But, just because my feet are more likely to be in flip-flops than stilettos and being stuck behind a bar with Tom Cruise would probably mean I’d have to be up past 9 pm doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a little bit of fancy being added to my everyday!
Who’s ready for summer? Raise your hand!
I am so ready!
Ready for sunshine and shorts. Flip flops and flipping burgers on the grill. The pool and picnics.
I’m ready for my favorite summer recipes and cold cocktails on the deck. Cocktails like my Lemon-Lime Beer Shandy!
I’m often asked how I would “define my style.” I’ve always had a hard time putting my style into words. I love a little glitz and glamour combined with some fun pops of color all against a white background.
Think deer antlers….gilded in gold.
a disco ball propped up against a mirrored tree stand. A family heirloom made over in electric blue! A fur throw over a navy velvet chair.
Are you getting the idea?
So when I saw the Home Goods Stylescope Quiz I was excited to actually find out what to call my “style!”
Shhhh…don’t tell my husband, but I have a new love in my life.
It showed up on my doorstep recently, and the good looks and sleek sophistication drew me in from the moment I unwrapped it. In fact I might have even given the Staples delivery truck driver a little squeal and a hug, but alas it wasn’t him I was excited to see…it was my new infatuation.
I believe I can convince my husband that the three of us will live quite well together in perfect harmony. [Read more…]
