$100 Visa Gift Card and Pepperidge Farm® Milano® Cookies

I always find it fascinating how many different interpretations there are of the word ‘fancy’. What seems ‘fancy’ to one person might just be an everyday occurrence to the next. For example, I’ll never forget when I started buying what I think of as the ‘fancy’ napkins. No, they aren’t the ones with the pretty designs on them or the ones that cost $10 for a pack of 5. Those would be the really ‘fancy’ napkins. We don’t want to go too crazy here people!

Nope, the ‘fancy’ napkins to me are simply the ones that aren’t the generic store brand. And I remember that moment when I put that name brand package of napkins in my cart. It felt so indulgent. It felt so rebellious. It felt so ‘fancy’. And I’ll never forget the first time I saw a package of Pepperidge Farm® Milano® cookies. I was about 8 years old and was visiting my Uncle Tom and Aunt Naomi’s home. They pulled out this small white bag and set it on the kitchen counter.  It was so simple and yet somehow managed to look chic and fancy. It kind of matched my Aunt and Uncle. 😉 But then, the bag was opened. And when I peeked inside and saw it was lined with silver foil and that the cookies were stacked up in crisp paper trays with a ruffled edge I thought that they surely had to be the most fancy cookies ever created.

And when I took that very first bite, instead of being crunchy like I expected them to be, they were soft and kind of just melted in my mouth. I felt so incredibly fancy. And the funny thing is, when I see those Milano cookies sitting on the shelf in the grocery store, they still look fancy to me. They cost the same as my favorite latte, and yet somehow eating them just feels so much more indulgent. I guess ‘fancy’ is in the eye of the beholder, right? 😉 And while in my mind I envision being served my Milano cookies on a silver platter with a dainty napkin…

 …this is closer to reality.

Of course, every once in awhile I feel like upping the ‘fancy’ ante and the other day I wondered what would happen if I combined two of my favorite desserts. And friends, let me just tell you, I had a serious moment of ‘fancy’ when I tasted my Mint Milano Topped Peppermint Crème Brûlée creation. I may have been standing in the kitchen in my sweats, hair in a ponytail, but I felt like I was sitting in a little cafe in Paris while La Vie En Rose was being played on an accordion in the background.

Peppermint Creme Brulee with Milano Cookie Topping

Peppermint Creme Brulee with Milano Cookie Topping

Ingredients

  • 5 eggs yolks
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons peppermint extract
  • 3 Milano Cookies crumbled/crushed

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • Whisk together the egg yolks and the sugar until completely smooth. Add the heavy cream and peppermint extract and lightly mix or fold into the egg and sugar mixture. Put empty ramekins in a casserole or baking dish with higher sides and fill the dish with hot water until it reaches about half-way up the sides of the ramekins. Fill the ramekins almost completely full with the egg mixture.
  • Bake for 45 minutes (or until knife inserted in center comes out fairly clean). Remove from oven and allow to cool.
  • Once completely cool (you can speed up the process by putting them in the fridge for a bit), lightly sprinkle the crushed cookies on the tops of the ramekins and then place under the broiler in the oven watching carefully until a browned crust forms on the top. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
  • Serves 4-6

It is like liquid gold to have a few minutes to myself since i have an at-home daycare, but during their nap time i like to go into my den with a cup of herbal tea, sit in front of my computer and pinterest! It is so relaxing to see all the creativity people have. That is my idea of time well spent!

A moment to myself used to seem so few and far between. With my girls growing up they come more frequently. A latte and a good book always seem to go hand in hand”. I kind of wish I had fewer times like these and had little ones to chase about.

My husband and I both work from home, so moments to myself are few and far between. I take dance classes at my local YMCA, and even though I’m not alone, those times where I get to just dance are definitely my moments to myself! Also makes me feel less guilty about eating mint milano cookies, which are my favorite (how did you know?)! 😉

Love this post. And I agree milanos are fancy! As a homeschooling mother of three, personal time is hard to come by. A night or two a week I unapologetically sneak away to eat my dinner solo whilst watching Jeopardy. Husband eats with the kids and I get to both use my brain and have a brief (30 min) respite from children.

Coffee definitely is one of the moment makers–particularly one from Starbucks. I am not into the fancy drinks…just enjoy the darker roasts and plain coffee but for a real “moment” I treat myself to a Clover brewed one. If you haven’t tried that I highly recommend it. Not the cheapest drink at Starbucks but they have so many rewards you end up with a free drink sooner or later and you can use the reward to really treat yourself to a Clover Coffee. My other moments are more on the side of baking than eating or indulging. I love getting into the kitchen and really getting back to basics and hand-mixing or using a few of my favorite tools. Add some great music and it’s definitely “moment” making.

I drive to the beach, pull out my Outrigger 1-Man Canoe and paddle through the clear, crisp water of Newport Beach. The workout can be 3 hours or 45 minutes. Somehow all my stress and worries slip away the moment my paddle hits the water.

My daughter and grandson recently moved in with me. To create a moment for myself I go to the bathroom and run a nice warm bath with lavender and eucalyptus bath salts from Bath and Body works, light candles, play soft soothing music, and sit back and relax for about half an hour. After living alone for the better part of 9 years it is kind of hard to live with someone in the household again but this helps me regain my “me” time and relax.

With three boys, one a newborn, “me time” is getting to use the bathroom unaccompanied and without having to yell multiple times from the commode: “what was that crash?” “leave your brother alone!” “I have a right to use the toilet!” while the parenting edit of a Beastie Boys song runs through my head: “you gotta fight/for your right/to potty”.

It’s time for another #tiptuesday and this week It’s time for another #tiptuesday and this week I’m showing how easy it is to decorate an entry table for spring in under five minutes! The formula is SO simple…

1. A lamp is your staple element and provides height.
2. Add a stack of books.
3. Bring in depth with a small framed seasonal print.
4. Add a small tray
5. Place seasonal accessories and a candle on that tray especially if you have cute brass bunnies!
6. Put a vase or urn on top of the books and add fresh or silk spring flowers.

And that’s all there is to it! Happy Spring dear friends! 🌸
Happy Friday! I’m oh so thankful for beautiful s Happy Friday! I’m oh so thankful for beautiful sunshine especially when our family has been hit by illness this week. Everyone is on the upswing, thankfully, and I’m hoping we’ll fell well enough to get outside and soak up some much needed natural vitamin D. After so many days of wet, gloomy weather this is like balm for my soul! 🍃 What’s the weather like where you are?
Here is a friendly PSA for you...do not, I repeat, Here is a friendly PSA for you...do not, I repeat, DO NOT attempt to apply eyeliner while you have the hiccups. It won't go well. Trust me on this one! 😜

In other news, the hot cocoa station is finally gone and in it's place is a fresh new look that was kicked off by finding a beautiful, rustic vase at @homegoods. It feels like my home is rising up to welcome Spring and I'm so ready for sunshine and longer days. 🍃

Don’t forget to check out my stories tonight for Friday funnies! I love hearing from so many of you who say it’s your favorite way to wrap up your week. ☺️

Happy weekend to you dear friends!

What a gift it was to wake up on the first day of What a gift it was to wake up on the first day of March and see glorious sunshine greeting us after a few days of ice and snow. This is the month of hope and expectation and I’m here for it.

Happy March first dear friends! 🍃
Our first ‘laundry room’ wasn’t actually a r Our first ‘laundry room’ wasn’t actually a room at all. The 20+ year old washer and dryer we inherited after we got married was hooked up in the garage of our small townhouse. Our second ‘laundry room’ was an improvement because it was actually INSIDE the house but it was in our family room behind bifold doors.

So when we moved into this home 15 years ago I literally jumped up and down when I saw this real laundry room. Never mind that it had dated counters and an old stained sink. It was an actual room!

We made minor updates to it over the years but other, more visible, spaces took priority so we spent our resources on beautifying those.

But, last summer, we finally had new counters installed and made a few more updates that have completely transformed this room.

Now, it’s almost a joy to do the laundry…almost! 😉

“In you, LORD my God, I put my trust. I trust in “In you, LORD my God, I put my trust.
I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me.

No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause.

Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths.

Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

Remember, LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.”
