I always find it fascinating how many different interpretations there are of the word ‘fancy’. What seems ‘fancy’ to one person might just be an everyday occurrence to the next. For example, I’ll never forget when I started buying what I think of as the ‘fancy’ napkins. No, they aren’t the ones with the pretty designs on them or the ones that cost $10 for a pack of 5. Those would be the really ‘fancy’ napkins. We don’t want to go too crazy here people!
Nope, the ‘fancy’ napkins to me are simply the ones that aren’t the generic store brand. And I remember that moment when I put that name brand package of napkins in my cart. It felt so indulgent. It felt so rebellious. It felt so ‘fancy’. And I’ll never forget the first time I saw a package of Pepperidge Farm® Milano® cookies. I was about 8 years old and was visiting my Uncle Tom and Aunt Naomi’s home. They pulled out this small white bag and set it on the kitchen counter. It was so simple and yet somehow managed to look chic and fancy. It kind of matched my Aunt and Uncle. 😉 But then, the bag was opened. And when I peeked inside and saw it was lined with silver foil and that the cookies were stacked up in crisp paper trays with a ruffled edge I thought that they surely had to be the most fancy cookies ever created.

And when I took that very first bite, instead of being crunchy like I expected them to be, they were soft and kind of just melted in my mouth. I felt so incredibly fancy. And the funny thing is, when I see those Milano cookies sitting on the shelf in the grocery store, they still look fancy to me. They cost the same as my favorite latte, and yet somehow eating them just feels so much more indulgent. I guess ‘fancy’ is in the eye of the beholder, right? 😉 And while in my mind I envision being served my Milano cookies on a silver platter with a dainty napkin…

…this is closer to reality.

Of course, every once in awhile I feel like upping the ‘fancy’ ante and the other day I wondered what would happen if I combined two of my favorite desserts. And friends, let me just tell you, I had a serious moment of ‘fancy’ when I tasted my Mint Milano Topped Peppermint Crème Brûlée creation. I may have been standing in the kitchen in my sweats, hair in a ponytail, but I felt like I was sitting in a little cafe in Paris while La Vie En Rose was being played on an accordion in the background.

Ingredients
- 5 eggs yolks
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons peppermint extract
- 3 Milano Cookies crumbled/crushed
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- Whisk together the egg yolks and the sugar until completely smooth. Add the heavy cream and peppermint extract and lightly mix or fold into the egg and sugar mixture. Put empty ramekins in a casserole or baking dish with higher sides and fill the dish with hot water until it reaches about half-way up the sides of the ramekins. Fill the ramekins almost completely full with the egg mixture.
- Bake for 45 minutes (or until knife inserted in center comes out fairly clean). Remove from oven and allow to cool.
- Once completely cool (you can speed up the process by putting them in the fridge for a bit), lightly sprinkle the crushed cookies on the tops of the ramekins and then place under the broiler in the oven watching carefully until a browned crust forms on the top. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
- Serves 4-6

I create a moment for myself when I am able to fix myself a cup of hot tea and settle in on the couch to watch a show on Netflix, without other obligations interfering (which doesn’t happen often enough!)
It is like liquid gold to have a few minutes to myself since i have an at-home daycare, but during their nap time i like to go into my den with a cup of herbal tea, sit in front of my computer and pinterest! It is so relaxing to see all the creativity people have. That is my idea of time well spent!
I have a cup of coffee and light my buttercream candle:) Thanks for the giveaway!
I get up before everyone else, brew some coffee and read.
I like a quiet, unplugged moment with my favorite bowl of fruit, and, yes, occasionally a cookie. Shutters open, sitting in the corner of my living room and watching the activities of my neighborhood in the lovely southeast Springfield ‘burbs.
I drink coffee and watch my favorite tv shows to create a moment for myself.

I grab a cup of coffee and my iPad and settle in my favorite chair to create my quiet moments!!
A moment to myself used to seem so few and far between. With my girls growing up they come more frequently. A latte and a good book always seem to go hand in hand”. I kind of wish I had fewer times like these and had little ones to chase about.
I lock the bathroom door, take a loooooong hot shower and pull out all my shower gels, body creams and lotions and try them all.
Some mornings to create a moment to myself I grab a cup of coffee and my daily devotional or sometimes a magazine and head out to my back deck!!

I create a moment to myself by running on the treadmill and watching a documentary on Netflix.
Usually lately it’s a hot cup of tea all fixed up with milk and honey and a yummy dessert like cookies while catching up on emails or watching a favorite show late at night.
I get up way earlier than my hubby and I grab the morning paper, settle in with a cup of freshly brewed coffee and just look outside at the mountains! It is quite invigorating and makes me appreciate my life every day!
Thanks!

My “moments” are first thing in the morning before any one else is up, drinking that first cup of coffee and reading. Thanks for the giveaway!
My “brief” moment is right before bedtime, after the children have gone to sleep, where I can watch one of my shows, poke around on Pinterest or do a little scrapbooking.
A cup of hot tea and a good book!
My husband and I both work from home, so moments to myself are few and far between. I take dance classes at my local YMCA, and even though I’m not alone, those times where I get to just dance are definitely my moments to myself! Also makes me feel less guilty about eating mint milano cookies, which are my favorite (how did you know?)! 😉
Love this post. And I agree milanos are fancy! As a homeschooling mother of three, personal time is hard to come by. A night or two a week I unapologetically sneak away to eat my dinner solo whilst watching Jeopardy. Husband eats with the kids and I get to both use my brain and have a brief (30 min) respite from children.
My time for myself is hitting the gym… with the reward of eating Milanos. 🙂
My moment comes when I go to bed at night. I hold my prayer book close to my heart, pray a little, then try to clear my mind and listen to God. I usually slip off to sleep during this time.
I take a long, hot bubble bath with a good book. Shutting the bathroom door and turning on the tap is all I need to set up my own private moment!
A cup of tea and a minute to read some emails!
Coffee definitely is one of the moment makers–particularly one from Starbucks. I am not into the fancy drinks…just enjoy the darker roasts and plain coffee but for a real “moment” I treat myself to a Clover brewed one. If you haven’t tried that I highly recommend it. Not the cheapest drink at Starbucks but they have so many rewards you end up with a free drink sooner or later and you can use the reward to really treat yourself to a Clover Coffee. My other moments are more on the side of baking than eating or indulging. I love getting into the kitchen and really getting back to basics and hand-mixing or using a few of my favorite tools. Add some great music and it’s definitely “moment” making.
I made time to read a good book!
Sometimes just being in the car by myself and selecting the radio station… or no music at all is a treat! Or, sitting down and reading the newspaper without interruption. Having a moment to decompress without little folks atwitter in the background is divine!
My favorite way to press pause, unwind, and enjoy the moment is to take a nice hot bubble bath with my favorite soft music.
I’M NOT ABLE TO VERY OFTEN, BUT SOMETIMES, JUST GOING THROUGH THE STARBUCKS DRIVE-THRU IS A BIG TREAT!

I try to make it to work early to have time to sit down at the coffee shop for at least 30 minutes and prepare for the day.
What you do during your week to create a ‘moment’ for yourself? I love to sit outside and just “chill” in the backyard with my dogs. It is great to be in the moment and enjoy the sun and the breeze.
A hot cup of coffee, up before my husband, sitting in the family room watching the morning news, and doing a bible study! Of course, two little doggies in my chair with me.
A cup of Dublin donuts coffee, and Netflix,( also,a cozy blanket) while I watch the pretty snow outside.
how cute are you eating your milanos and reading Top This Top That on your lap top! 🙂 I always enjoy the first hour of the day for myself. Time to reflect, plan and mentally get ready for the day. Too bad it would be to early for a milano. i love those things and can easily eat ….quite a few.
LOL!!! Laura OF COURSE I was reading Top This Top That!! 😉
A good cup of flavored coffee and my Ipad to check my emails in my favorite chair in front of the fireplace

moment for myself..lol..before work on friday but after dropping the kids off to school i go to one of my favorite stores and browse the sales rack (its an extra 15 percent off that day!)
I always make sure I read at least a few pages all by myself every day.
AAAAAAAAWWWWWWW!!!!!!!! A few moments just to sit & watch the squirrels run up the trees and the horses gallop around the neighbors farm and drink a little hot tea as I am amazed at nature that’s my moments..!!! TY
I come home after dropping the kids off at school and make a cup of coffee. I have an addiction to coffee that can only be described as epic. After I decide if I will flavor it or not and what syrup/sauce combo I will use, I plop down on my couch and turn on my dvr to The Tonight Show, coffee and crochet work in hand.
I really like to take my dogs to the park. Their joy is infectious.

I love Milanos! I don’t buy them much though. Why not??? 🙂 For me, to get a moment to myself, after all of my kids are in bed, I snuggle up on the couch and watch something on Netflix.

I enjoy watching my favorite show that I’ve taped while walking on the treadmill. It’s the secret to not being interrupted.
My favorite retreat is a pot of slowly steeped whole-leaf tea, my hidden bag of Mint Milano cookies, the classical station on Pandora, and catching up on reading blogs.
I drive to the beach, pull out my Outrigger 1-Man Canoe and paddle through the clear, crisp water of Newport Beach. The workout can be 3 hours or 45 minutes. Somehow all my stress and worries slip away the moment my paddle hits the water.

I have a cup of my favorite coffee with real cream while reading the morning paper. Thank goodness Wal-Mart now sells Starbucks.
I take about 20 minutes to relax and clear my mind of things that need done. My Mom always did this and she lived to be 90.

My daughter and grandson recently moved in with me. To create a moment for myself I go to the bathroom and run a nice warm bath with lavender and eucalyptus bath salts from Bath and Body works, light candles, play soft soothing music, and sit back and relax for about half an hour. After living alone for the better part of 9 years it is kind of hard to live with someone in the household again but this helps me regain my “me” time and relax.

When I need a moment, I love to take a hike in the woods. While I am a long distance backpacker and can spends weeks/months out there hiking day in and day out, a hour in the woods can recharge/refresh me.
I have it lucky, my husband was okay with me leaving the work force so I wouldn’t have to sit in traffic. I take time for myself by enjoying my coffee in the morning and gazing out my sliding glass door at the birds, my flowers and plants.
