Hello, hello friends! A belated Merry Christmas to all of you! I hope you have had a wonderful, joy-filled time with family and friends. It’s been quiet here At the Picket Fence as we take some time to simply just ‘be’.
Do you want to know a secret about me? My most favorite day of the season is the day AFTER Christmas.
The house is still decorated and the lights are still twinkling on the tree(s). There is still Christmas music playing in the background. There are all sorts of delicious homemade goodies piled up in the kitchen. But everything is so much calmer. The kids have all of their new toys and gadgets to play with and this mama can just stay in her pj’s, drink coffee and lose myself in one of the many new books I received. It’s a glorious day!
But, in the back of my mind, I’m also thinking about how I want to make sure to not miss out on hitting some of the after-Christmas sales. And how next year, I’ll be up in the attic pulling out the Christmas bins and be thrilled to discover that I’ve tucked away a bag full of clearance items that will be perfect for adding to my decor.
This year, though, I spent quite a bit of time paring down my Christmas decorations and realized that my sensibilities have changed a bit when it comes to seasonal decor.
I really want to be surrounded by things that have meaning. Things that enhance rather than distract. I want to embrace the season without the season looking like it exploded in every nook and cranny of my house.
Most of all, I want to make sure that in all the ‘doing’ we aren’t missing the meaning. That in all of the preparing of our homes we aren’t neglecting to prepare our hearts.
That’s why I was so thrilled this year to hang these gorgeous new ornaments on our tree. They are one in a series from the new Ever Thine Home collection which was recently launched by creator Barbara Rainey. Barbara and her husband Dennis are the founders of Family Life and have spent their lives pouring into families. This new line is such a natural extension of their ministry and provides beautiful ways to have your home decor reflect your faith.
And I’m so thrilled to be offering one of YOU the opportunity to win your very own set of Adornaments©. The winner will receive a box of the His Royal Names ornaments which are so very lovely in all of their glittery glory.
It even comes with a special booklet written by Barbara providing wonderful, inspiring words to encourage and bless your heart as you prepare to celebrate Christ’s birth.
In the classic tale, “A Christmas Carol”, Ebeneezer Scrooge survived a night that was terrifying, revealing and convicting. He emerged on Christmas morning a changed man and declared, “I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year.”
I used to find myself experiencing such a sense of letdown after Christmas. When you are younger, it seems that the magic is somehow all wrapped up in the lights on the tree and the brightly wrapped presents surrounding it.
But, the older I get, the easier it is for me to make the transition into a new year. Because I know that the true spirit of Christmas doesn’t get packed away in plastic bins and stored in the attic.
The true spirit is reflected in the names on those ornaments. The names of our Saviour.
His birth was only the beginning after all. And as we head into the coming months, my prayer is that I will approach each day with Christmas in my heart!
Now, how about entering to win that beautiful ornament set?
Leave a comment telling me about your favorite Christmas ornament and why it’s so special to you.
