Wow! It’s been so crazy since moving in our new house, five months ago. It seemed we just got here when it was time to start decorating for fall and now Christmas! In between all of the fall and Christmas projects and plans, I’ve been attempting to get the house furnished and decorated in general. You may remember I mentioned in our , new home tour, that we were pretty much starting from scratch with all new furnishings and decor. A decorators dream but a frugal person’s nightmare! ha!
Our master bedroom was one room I wanted to pay special attention to. I want it to be a true sanctuary for us…and I was so tired of the decor in our old bedroom that I was ready for a fresh new change!
Here’s where we’re at! I decided on a soothing blue, cream and white color palette, creating a calming blue and white master bedroom. Some of these pieces were brought from the old house, you may recognize a few, and worked perfectly for the bedroom.
This beautiful armoire was in our living room in the old house, but is perfect now at the end of the bed to house our TV and as extra storage space.
I had this chair in our living room and then bedroom at the old house, and it works perfectly in our new room tucked in the corner. I repurposed this lamp from our old bedroom but topped it with this pretty gold shade to match the new decor.
I found this large basket at Ross for $19.00! It’s HUGE! I get so tired of our pillows ending up in a pile on the floor, so this makes a nice place to stack them when we don’t make the bed…which I confess is most days. 😉
I found the duvet cover and Euro shams at Pottery Barn on clearance for $99.00 and loved it as much in person as I did online. I paired it with a crisp white matelasse coverlet I found at Tuesday Mornings for $30 and was so lucky to find the matching pillow shams too, for $12 each.
I had two pieces that we brought from the old house, that I thought would make perfect night stands. Now, the OCD in me struggled with having mismatched stands, but on the other hand I love both pieces and think they fit well in this space. What do you think?
Here’s stand one which is a mahogany antique chest that has been in our family for years.
Nightstand two is a large chest of drawers that has a beautiful painted finish. I topped it with an antique tool box to hold my magazines and purchased these two matching hammered gold lamps from Kirklands. I would like to find two matching mirrors to place over each night stand, like I have over the mahogany piece in the picture above. What are your thoughts on what to place over the nightstands?
Above is the view into our master bathroom. I would love to place something under our wedding picture. I was thinking two matching stools or some type of upholstered bench. What would you put there?
I think my favorite find for the master bedroom was my cream tufted upholstered headboard! Would you believe me if I told you I purchased it online from…WalMart!? It was even more gorgeous in person than online. I love it’s linen texture and it is really well made.
I hope you enjoyed my mid-makeover master bedroom reveal! I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions on the areas I’m still working on and any ideas you might have for the room! I’ll be showing it all decked out for Christmas so stay tuned!
I’d also like to take a minute and announce the winner of the Libby’s Fruit and Vegetable Baking Pans Giveaway.
Congratulations Annette Prejean!! We’ll contact you by email to claim your prize.
We will be having some great guest posts over the next few days, as we prepare to spend time with our families over Thanksgiving! But we’ll both be back next week, with some fabulous Christmas projects and our Holiday Housewalk Home Tours! See you back here soon…at the picket fence!
The room is looking great! I like the mismatched nightstands. His being more “masculine” and yours being more “feminine.” I think the matching lamps really tie them together. I don’t think the “artwork” over the nightstands has to match exactly, but the same scale. And, I love the idea of 2 stools under that gorgeous wedding picture! And, that’s my 2 cents! Can’t wait to see it decked out for Christmas! Life to the full! Melissa
My favorite part of the master bedroom is the two mismatched end tables on either side of the bed…they are both beautiful and I love the way it makes the room feel a little untraditional..what a fun look!
Beautiful, Heather! I love that everything isn’t perfectly matched. Anyone can do that! I love that you’ve moved your pieces around from room to room to find what works best for you where you are now. This room is so full of light and beauty. Great job!
Your master bedroom is beautiful Heather! I love all your ideas for finishing off the rest of the room and I love the big basket for your pillows. (Note to self: go out and buy a big basket for those pillows that get stacked in the corner!)
Love the gold lamps. Hoping to find one soon for my living room. I’m pleased to say, I like to share a room with pieces of furniture that do not match. At first, I hesitated. I married in the early seventies and all furniture pieces went together room by room. Today, I mix pieces and metals, etc. and smile a lot.
I think it is very inviting and you certainly gave it a very personal touch. You asked about the nightstands…I think they look just great…no need to match. The only advice I would give is that I would replace the gold picture frames with natural wood frames, probably a dark wood. I think that would warm up the room. Great job!
Your bedroom is looking gorgeous! Can’t believe you found the headboard online from WalMart – it’s beautiful. Your linens are so pretty too. What a lovely wedding picture and I like your idea of little stools under it. You have such beautiful style. I want to wish you and your family a blessed Thanksgiving.
be a sweetie,
Sheila 😉
Looking so bright and pretty! I love, love those lamps Heather. And that headboard. Yum.
Love what you’ve done in your bedroom, Heather! The headboard is great. I bought one from Walmart, too, for our guest room and it gave me just what I needed at the time. Of course, it’s in the attic now since I moved our old headboard into the guest room after getting a King bed in our room. I am going through the same thing about what to put over the bedroom side tables. I’m kind of leaning toward shutters. I have seen mirrors and that looks good, too. I even like the idea of maybe a solid shutter with a mirror on the lower portion {you know the paneled shutters?}. Then I would have the two looks I like in one! Love the idea of a bench under your wedding picture. I bet Hobby Lobby would have something that would work {or Home Goods}.
Your master bedroom is really coming along beautifully. I love the idea of the mismatched nightstands. My only concern is it appears from the photo that the scale of the two may be off (one looks higher than the other, and the widths seem very different – could totally just be the photo). I like the idea of two upholstered ottomans under your wedding photo. One of my favorite things in the room is the headboard. I would have never dreamed you got it at Walmart – great find!! I love that you repurposed furniture from your other home in a totally new way in this home. Gorgeous bedding as well.
Your room looks great! I can relate to everything you are going through about moving, working with furniture you have, etc. That’s exactly where I am these days. I am glad to know that you like the Walmart headboard. I have been “this close” to ordering one several times, but needed some encouragement 🙂

Your room looks lovely, Heather! Good plan for mirrors over the nightstands, and I love those lamps!
Love absolutely everything but the wall color. You might sometime pull a color out of the duvet to put on your walls. ( light or dark pumpkin?) Maybe a couple of throws added to the room? Love all the pieces you have chosen!
Look closely at your headboard wall and you’ll notice a definite visual line moving from left to right – from the lower left corner of your tool box on up to the top of your window on your right. With the mirror on the same wall as your window, this wall looks off balance. To straighten and balance that visual line, try moving your mirror to the other end table and then replace the mirror on the right with something smaller. Try to avoid hanging or placing it/them any higher than the height of tour toolbox. Also, when you chose the duvet and sham, you introduced several other colors, with red being the predominant – which creates a nice pop, but I feel you need to carry that through with that same pop throughout the room..such as: removing the pillow from your charming chair and replacing it with a complimentary print or stripe that has red in it (or add something red to the existing pillow – such as piping or ribbon?); add two red tassels to the handles of your armoire; if you choose to go with a bench or small stools under the wedding photo, try fo incorporate a small touch of red there, too. Your headboard is so lovely, but look how it just sort of blends in with the wall color…is there a way to make that beauty stand out more? As it is, the mirror stands out more than the headboard. You have great bones here with what you’ve done, but I agree that it needs just a little tweaking.
Beautiful!!!! It looks fantastic girl! I love the wedding portrait too! You look like a soap star! Almost too pretty to be true!
CUTE! Love the whole bed!! I would put a bench under the wedding picture. 🙂 That way you can sit down and lotion yourself up after the shower 🙂
Looks beautiful! I think finding something to hang over the other nightstand…in same visual weight/scale would be the perfect touch.
This room is perfect, I am in love with the painted night stand and the mirror. All the colors work perfectly
What a pretty room, Heather! That headboard is beautiful. I love the combination of white with darker wood pieces, accented with those lovely colors. Looking forward to seeing it decked out for Christmas!
Wow, your bedroom is looking wonderful – I do love the colors and the mismatched nightstands – I took our two nightstands painted them slightly different – a his/hers deal. LOVE the headboard – Walmart – how cool is that! As far as the mirrors are concerned perhaps to ‘balance’ the look you could get a darker stained mirror to balance the darker nightstand because the mirror on the darker nightstand compliments the lighter, painted dresser. How about a chest – like an old rustic trunk under your wedding photo, lovely by the way and perhaps a plant. Whatever you do I know it will be great and fun! Have a blessed Thanksgiving,
Kathy
The room is beautiful and I imagine you will find it to be very peaceful and blissful to be in this room. I love your duvet cover. It just pops in the room. I love that you used an antique chest that is a family heirloom as a night table. I also love how you used a vintage toolbox as a magazine holder on your night table. It looks awesome and you have your reading material right at your fingertips. Great idea! Thanks for the inspiration.
I LOVE your room…you did such a spectacular job!…Love the bedding, the lamps…the entire room!..
I like using framed prints that hang right above the nightstands/dressers…
This room looks so elegant and soothing. Perfect place to sleep. Love the color scheme of creams, golds, and blues – with a splash of red on the accent pillow. I am currently re-doing our entire house – one room at a time! Thanks for the inspiration!
It looks great, Heather! Very serene and calming. Love the armoire in this space! And I like the mismatched bedside tables. I like the fact that you have matching lamps, though–good call. Matching mirrors above might be nice, too, or two mirrors that coordinate with one another but don’t quite match (his and hers!). I think an upholstered bench below your mirrors would be a great idea. I found a great one at Overstock.com last year, and I also found two matching stools at Target. I ended up buying the two Target stools in my living room by simply re-upholstering the seats. The only thing I didn’t like about them in their original stage from Target was the upholstery, but now that’s problem! (You can look at them in this post if you like: https://www.impartinggrace.com/2013/11/new-living-room-details-and-sources.html
It’s been such fun to follow your progress in the new house!
WOW. The room is stunning! And I honestly love the nightstands – they give a His & Her’s feel to the room.
I’ve been on the hunt for a headboard like this and would love a link to yours. It’s nice to hear of the quality from someone who has purchased an item since it is tricky to know from an online photo! Headed over to the WalMart site now but I’d love to know the details in case I need to look elsewhere. Thank you!
Barbara, I have been so pleased with my headboard! I’ve had it about 7 months now with no issues and it was very easy to install. Here’s the direct link to it on WalMart’s site: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Fashion-Bed-Group-Martinique-Full-Queen-Headboard-Ivory/20967849
Your master bedroom looks tranquil and elegant! I love the mix of wood and painted furniture. I have a floor lamp similar to yours that I painted with Annie Sloan Antique white (now I wish I wouldn’t have painted it) Your armoire is exquisite! You have the perfect mix of old and new in this room. I’m sure by now you’ve added things or taken them away. But everything in the photos makes me want to linger over all the details. Oh, I love leaning mirrors. Yours looks great on the bedside table. I also love that the room isn’t matchy-matchy (like my master bedroom which is way…..too small)
Hi, Heather,
I’m here from Savvy Southern Style and am finding that I sure like your style. Your room is lovely and I can imagine it would be a great haven from teenagers, as needed. 🙂 In your pictures on Kim’s blog you showed some beautiful arched mirrors on your nightstands. Can you share where you found them? I have a place in my house that could use just one.
Much happiness in your beautiful home!!
Wow!This is amazing. The master bedroom is fresh and bright! Congrats on the hard work and smart design choices to the person behind this beautiful design.
