Make your own Anthropologie Inspired Spice Jars

DIY Anthropologie Inspired Spice Jars from www.atthepicketfence.com

There are many wonderful things about living out in the country.  Beautiful views.  Peace and quiet.  Seeing the stars at night.

There are some not so great things about living in the country.   No place to just grab a gallon of milk…or a box of Hot Tamales.  Cows wandering through your yard.  Yes. Yes they do.

And no Anthropologie.  Which makes it hard when you start coveting the cute little chalkboard spice jars everyone starts posting on Pinterest and Instagram and Facebook.

Since these little suckers are pricey enough all on their own, there was no way I was going to order them online and add shipping costs to the already hefty little price tag.   So, I decided to see if I could make a knock-off version.

Here’s what you’ll need to make some for yourself:

Supplies

Anthropologie Inspired Spice Jars supplies

Directions:

Spray several light coats of White Dual Primer & Paint Spray paint on jars until thoroughly covered.  Allow to Dry.
Brush on several light coats of chalkboard paint onto labels, allowing to dry thoroughly between coats.
(If desired) Apply pattern to lids using Elmer’s glue and allow to dry thoroughly.
With acrylic paint of choice, paint each lid with several light coats of paint until desired coverage.
Spray jars and lids with light coat of acrylic spray paint and allow to dry thoroughly.
Attach chalkboard labels to jars.  Use glue if necessary for a stronger adhesion.

DIY Anthropologie Inspired Spice Jars Tutorial

I really love how they turned out! I probably will stick to using them for odd and ends and not actually spices…but I think they are just so cute!

Anthropologie Chalkboard Spice Jars: $10-12
DIY Anthropologie Inspired Chalkboard Spice Jars: approx. $3

I’ll keep them around to remind me not to let a little inconvenience  like living in the middle of nowhere, keep me from having the cute things that I see…I’ll just DIY them!  Think I could DIY some Hot Tamales. 😉

Stay tuned because we have tons of fun spring ideas coming up over the next few weeks.
Like this great Easter Tablescape Party we’ll be participating in with a group of fabulous bloggers!

Really cute! I have a bunch of old baby food jars stashed in my closet. I think they would work just as well! I love Anthropologie but my pocket book cannot handle the price tags. I love this project:)

These are amazing. And that trick for painting the labels is brilliant. I tried using chalkboard paint directly on glass once, and it eas a huge fail.

And now I have another reason to like you. Hot Tamales! Best candy ever.

Email me your address and I will send you a care package!

ha! YES! People know they can bribe me for favor with a box of Hot Tamales. 😉 lol I found painting the chalkboard paint straight onto glass a failure as well, I think these provided a much cleaner look.

I’m saving baby food jars. Either collect them from friends or buy them on sale. I plan to attach a magnetic sheet under my cabinet (I have very little counter space) then “hang” the jars from the sheet. the lids also have a vinyl seal to maintain freshness. I love your idea. when I first saw the jars I thought, “that’s the same idea I had!” In comparison to the jars I’ve looked at, the baby food jars are the perfect size and price.

Found this post and your blog at the Inspiration Gallery. This is such a cute knockoff! I would love to try something like this…but I would actually want to use it for spices. It doesn’t look like you sprayed the inside, but you still think it might be better to keep this for non-food storage?!??!?!

I have been saving up empty spice jars recently. What a great idea for them! Especially considering it’s much cheaper to buy spices in a sachet rather than the jar too. Saves some money while crafting! Always a great thing!

I made knock-offs also and just thought I would share some alternate methods – I used plasti-dip for the jar tops and I used chalkboard contact paper for the labels rather than painting a label. And, if you should have a Target near you the jars are much cheaper to buy than to buy the materials lol. Yours look great!!

It’s time for another #tiptuesday and this week It’s time for another #tiptuesday and this week I’m showing how easy it is to decorate an entry table for spring in under five minutes! The formula is SO simple…

1. A lamp is your staple element and provides height.
2. Add a stack of books.
3. Bring in depth with a small framed seasonal print.
4. Add a small tray
5. Place seasonal accessories and a candle on that tray especially if you have cute brass bunnies!
6. Put a vase or urn on top of the books and add fresh or silk spring flowers.

And that’s all there is to it! Happy Spring dear friends! 🌸
Happy Friday! I’m oh so thankful for beautiful s Happy Friday! I’m oh so thankful for beautiful sunshine especially when our family has been hit by illness this week. Everyone is on the upswing, thankfully, and I’m hoping we’ll fell well enough to get outside and soak up some much needed natural vitamin D. After so many days of wet, gloomy weather this is like balm for my soul! 🍃 What’s the weather like where you are?

In other news, the hot cocoa station is finally gone and in it's place is a fresh new look that was kicked off by finding a beautiful, rustic vase at @homegoods. It feels like my home is rising up to welcome Spring and I'm so ready for sunshine and longer days. 🍃

Don’t forget to check out my stories tonight for Friday funnies! I love hearing from so many of you who say it’s your favorite way to wrap up your week. ☺️

Our first ‘laundry room’ wasn’t actually a r Our first ‘laundry room’ wasn’t actually a room at all. The 20+ year old washer and dryer we inherited after we got married was hooked up in the garage of our small townhouse. Our second ‘laundry room’ was an improvement because it was actually INSIDE the house but it was in our family room behind bifold doors.

So when we moved into this home 15 years ago I literally jumped up and down when I saw this real laundry room. Never mind that it had dated counters and an old stained sink. It was an actual room!

We made minor updates to it over the years but other, more visible, spaces took priority so we spent our resources on beautifying those.

But, last summer, we finally had new counters installed and made a few more updates that have completely transformed this room.

Now, it’s almost a joy to do the laundry…almost! 😉

Ronald Reagan famously said that “all great chan Ronald Reagan famously said that “all great change in America begins at the dinner table.” I think this is true for everyone worldwide. You simply can’t put a value on the importance of gathering together for a meal with those you love. But, sometimes, we can struggle with getting the conversations flowing. So for this #tiptuesday, I’m sharing some tools we’ve used in our home. 🍃
There is just something about the combination of l There is just something about the combination of lemon and honey. It’s rustic yet fancy, sweet yet tart, spring-like yet comforting on a cold winters day.

And that’s why this is hands down one of my favorite recipes! I decided to take a basic tea cake and turn it into a loaf of sweet, tart, simple yet fancy goodness and the only thing bad about it was how quickly it disappeared!

The sun is shining and it’s the perfect day to photograph our laundry room which got a bit of a makeover. This space is definitely useful as it bears the brunt of everyone tromping through it all day long but I think I’ve managed to make it pleasant as well. One of my greatest realizations in my homemaking journey was when I recognized that those two things weren’t mutually exclusive. In fact, it’s the pleasant that enhances the useful and vice versa.

I’ll have the rest of the makeover reveal on my website soon but I just couldn’t resist sharing a sneak peek with you today! 🌿
