Easter Brunch Buffet ~ Care to Join Me?

Spring Brunch Buffet At the Picket Fence

In my mind the word Brunch = Fancy. But not too fancy.

Not sparkly dress and pointy-toed stilettos kind of fancy.

More like a cute sundress and espadrilles.

It’s taking the everyday routine of cereal for breakfast and peanut butter and jelly for lunch up a notch…or two…or three.

Toss in the word ‘buffet’ and you definitely don’t have to worry about anyone thinking it’s too fancy!

Spring Centerpiece At the Picket Fence

We’re not talking the “all you can eat” kind of buffet. Although I promise I always have enough food to go around!

No, I’m talking about a Spring Brunch Buffet that blends casual and elegance and maybe makes you feel a bit fancy too. But not too fancy. You don’t even have to wear espadrilles. Maybe you just want to wear flip-flops. That’s OK too. You might consider the ones with the little sparkles on top though. We’ll call them your “fancy” flip-flops.

And then we’ll make you say that five times fast.

Vintage silverware At the Picket Fence

Hosting a Spring Brunch Buffet means you can get away with things you wouldn’t normally attempt. Like putting a birds nest on a plate on the table alongside the food. Because, well, it just felt right…and fancy.

I might even feel like stenciling some Spring-y scenes onto flour sack towels which have been cut in half to make napkins. They could be a fancy party favor. Unless you spill something on them. In which case the fancy factor goes way down.

The reality is that when you set a table with beautiful heirloom silverware and salt and pepper shakers that have graced countless tables, you could be serving pb&j and it would look beautiful.

Especially if you cut the crusts off and sliced them into little triangles. See…it doesn’t take much to up that fancy factor!

But, why would you have pb&j when you could have blueberry muffins as big as your head?

You see, I don’t think you have to make a choice between simple and special.

I think that sometimes what makes something so special is, in fact,  just how simple it is.

So, do you care to join me for my simply sweet Spring Brunch Buffet?

You might even decide to wear those fancy flip-flops after all!

Easter Tablescape At the Picket Fence

I’m so thrilled to be joining in this fun week of beautiful Easter Tablescapes hosted by the wonderful ladies of Uncommon Designs!

Easter Tablescapes Series

They kicked things off with their gorgeous Bunnies and Burlap table and were followed by Thistlewood Farm where we got some fabulous Spring Table Decorating Tips. Next we saw a Beautiful in Blue Easter Tablescape from On Sutton Place followed by a stunning Vintage Brass and Lavender Tablescape from Finding Home. A Natural Easter Tablescape was shared by A Night Owl and a darling Children’s Easter Tablescape was created by Dukes and Duchesses.

What an honor to be included in this lineup!

I hope you will pay them all a visit and I look forward to meeting you back here at the Fence soon,

I have the same stemware that was my maternal grandmother’s. I love them dearly. Your table looks like a breath of spring. First time doing an Easter dinner buffet with a baker’s dozen guests.

Great table Vanessa…I have those flip flops that you can change the straps on…so in a moment I can change them from casual to dressy and sparkly…Last year I set a “summer beach table” and put flip flops ON the table..did not get the memo when they said “flip flops” accepted, i thought it would have to be part of the decor on the table…glad you are setting the record straight…they shall stay on my feet!…I love, love the stencils on the flour sack towels…so pretty!…

Matthew 7:13-14 says, “Enter through the narrow Matthew 7:13-14 says, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.”.

When I was a little girl we took a trip to Silver Dollar City theme park in Branson, MO. One of the attractions there is the Marvel Cave. The whole theme park was actually built right around the cave! I will never forget the feeling of descending into the darkness. We had to walk down a steep, narrow path and I could feel the rocky walls beginning to close in on me. From time to time, our guide would even have to call out for us to duck our heads so as not to whack them on rocks that were jutting out. And just when it felt like we had been walking forever; just when it felt the most narrow and the most dark; just when we were starting to get really weary from navigating this path, we turned the corner and found ourselves awestruck as we gazed at this enormous room. Everywhere we looked there were stalactites and stalagmites. Lights had been installed and they reflected off of these formations creating the most beautiful colors on the walls. There were pools of water in a shade of aquamarine I had never seen before and waterfalls flowing from upper levels. That long, winding, damp trek had been so very worth it. The descent into darkness had revealed light…and life!

My prayer for you friends, is that you will look at that narrow path with the small gate as an opportunity. It’s an opportunity to experience the kind of freedom that our souls are longing for. The wide and broad path of the world promises us a freedom that is fleeting and temporary. But at the end of the narrow path, there is hope and peace and life everlasting.

I’m choosing the narrow path. And in spite of the hardships, in spite of the challenges and the fears and the times that can feel as dark as the journey down into a cave, I wouldn’t trade a single minute of it.

It’s not perfect and WE are not perfect by a long stretch. But, it’s where we feel the most free to be imperfect. And that makes it pretty wonderful! 🌱

When I started blogging, he was only 6 years old and some of you have been apart of my community here for that entire time. Now, he's 19 and there is a reason parents are told not to blink because the years truly do go faster than I ever could have imagined. He has become such an incredible young man we are so excited to see how God is going to unfold the next chapter of his life. We celebrated with parties galore (SO many open houses to attend!) and made memories we'll forever cherish. My mama heart was filled to bursting with the joy of it all! Now we're taking some time to just enjoy these warm, summer days making even more memories because, when you’re at this stage of parenting, you know all too well how much you need to grasp every opportunity to spend time together.

I hope your summer is off to a great start too dear friends! 🪴
