Etched Glass Snowflake Lamp! Let it Snow!

Why on earth am I showing you an etched glass snowflake lamp in August? Why would I want to dig through my Christmas bins in a 90 degrees attic and clunk my head on the rafters over and over again? Why would I risk my family looking at me like I had lost my mind working with fake snow and snowflake stencils?

Why?

Hometalk and Lamps Plus Design Challenge

I’ll tell you why!

I was issued a challenge by the folks at Hometalk and Lamps Plus. Take this plain lamp and transform it for the holidays. And when I’m issued a challenge, well, you better believe I’m going to accept it!

I was really wanting to find a way to “fill” the lamp while still celebrating the simple beauty of the glass. I’ve always wanted to try using glass etching cream and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. So, with my 40% off coupon in hand, I picked some up at the craft store and began my glass etching adventures.

I scattered them randomly around the glass base and I may or may not have been jumping up and down with excitement as I wiped off the cream (after waiting 15 minutes per instructions) and saw the little snowflakes etched into the glass! I mean, is this stuff cool or what? I’m going to become a glass etching machine after this project!

The base of the lamp slips off easily for filling and after dumping in a bag of faux snow I picked up the entire base and swirled it around so that some of the flakes would stick to the sides.

Ahhhhh the power of static!

A large snowflake stencil (which was simply printed out from a template I found online) was used to carry the theme onto the shade and tracing each flake with a silver leafing pen adds some sparkle. I finished it off with a silver ribbon detail on the top and bottom of the shade.

I know it’s August. I know that I had hydrangeas from my yard sitting on the coffee table in the same room as this lamp. I know that it’s going to be in the 80’s all week and we are still wearing flip-flops.

But, I’m not gonna lie…

I was humming “Let it Snow” the whole time I was working on this project! Of course, that wasn’t helping me in the family-thinking-I’m-crazy department. 😉

Thank you so much to Lamps Plus and Hometalk for allowing me to participate in such a fun holiday challenge!

Three winners will be chosen and I’m definitely hoping to be one of them!

Vanessa, you have my vote! This lamp is awesome and I do believe one or more companies will copy your inspiration and these lamps will be on floor shelves come November.

You are definitely NOT crazy; I get the Christmas Spirit every year in July. Pull out my old Christmas magazines/cookbooks and plan for the Season. I’ve never etched on glass but I plan on taking my 40% off coupon and buy some cream. Hope you win!!!

I’m slightly obsessed with lavender and have pla I’m slightly obsessed with lavender and have planted it all around our home. Seeing it waving in the breeze, using it to make simple syrup and just breathing it in as I walk past fills my soul!
Matthew 7:13-14 says, “Enter through the narrow Matthew 7:13-14 says, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.”.
.
When I was a little girl we took a trip to Silver Dollar City theme park in Branson, MO. One of the attractions there is the Marvel Cave. The whole theme park was actually built right around the cave! I will never forget the feeling of descending into the darkness. We had to walk down a steep, narrow path and I could feel the rocky walls beginning to close in on me. From time to time, our guide would even have to call out for us to duck our heads so as not to whack them on rocks that were jutting out. And just when it felt like we had been walking forever; just when it felt the most narrow and the most dark; just when we were starting to get really weary from navigating this path, we turned the corner and found ourselves awestruck as we gazed at this enormous room. Everywhere we looked there were stalactites and stalagmites. Lights had been installed and they reflected off of these formations creating the most beautiful colors on the walls. There were pools of water in a shade of aquamarine I had never seen before and waterfalls flowing from upper levels. That long, winding, damp trek had been so very worth it. The descent into darkness had revealed light…and life!

My prayer for you friends, is that you will look at that narrow path with the small gate as an opportunity. It’s an opportunity to experience the kind of freedom that our souls are longing for. The wide and broad path of the world promises us a freedom that is fleeting and temporary. But at the end of the narrow path, there is hope and peace and life everlasting.

I’m choosing the narrow path. And in spite of the hardships, in spite of the challenges and the fears and the times that can feel as dark as the journey down into a cave, I wouldn’t trade a single minute of it.

When I started blogging, he was only 6 years old and some of you have been apart of my community here for that entire time. Now, he's 19 and there is a reason parents are told not to blink because the years truly do go faster than I ever could have imagined. He has become such an incredible young man we are so excited to see how God is going to unfold the next chapter of his life. We celebrated with parties galore (SO many open houses to attend!) and made memories we'll forever cherish. My mama heart was filled to bursting with the joy of it all! Now we're taking some time to just enjoy these warm, summer days making even more memories because, when you’re at this stage of parenting, you know all too well how much you need to grasp every opportunity to spend time together.

I hope your summer is off to a great start too dear friends! 🪴
