Welcome to another Take Five: Five Minute Crafts! Where we share crafts ANYONE can make…and they only take FIVE MINUTES! Once a month we will have a special guest poster sharing a fabulous and easy craft with you….and this week, we are so thrilled to have the talented Mary Beth of Cupcakes and Crinoline with us! We hope you’ll make her feel welcomed over here…At The Picket Fence!
Hi Everyone! I am Mary Beth and I blog over at Cupcakes and Crinoline. I am so excited to be here today. Heather and Vanessa are such great gals and I always love what they share, especially the stories they sprinkle throughout their posts that help you to get to know them better. My blog is a little bit of everything thrown together ~ recipes, crafts, small DIY projects and some kid stuff. Today I want to share a craft that’s perfect for the upcoming holidays…Glitter Candles.
I love glitter…honestly, it’s a bit of an obsession, but as a mom of 3 boys, there is very little tolerance for glittery, sparkly things in my house. At any given time there is wrestling, football, and kickboxing going on so almost everything I have is sturdy {think nailed to the floor}. The one exception I make is decorating for the holidays. I pull out the glitter and add sparkle to anything that’s not moving.
These candles are so easy to make. All you need is taper candles, painter’s tape, Mod Pod {a paintbrush} and glitter. I got my glitter for $1.00 at Target and I swear the container is never-ending.
Step 1:
Wrap each candle at about the halfway point with painter’s tape being sure to keep it in a straight line around the candle.
Step 2:
Apply the Mod Podge around the lower half of the candle below the painter’s tape. Do one candle at a time so that the Mod Podge is nice and tacky and the glitter adheres well.
Step 3:
Shake your glitter all over the area that has been Mod Podged.
Step 4:
Allow candles to dry. I placed my candles in a glass jar for this purpose.
Step 5:
Once dry, gently remove the painter’s tape.
Disclaimer: Never leave a burning candle unattended and do not let the candle burn below the glitter line.
These were so easy to make that I also glittered up some orange ones for a Halloween Centerpiece.
I want to Thank Heather and Vanessa for letting me share this easy craft with you today. I would be totally beside myself with joy if you stopped by Cupcakes and Crinoline to check out some of my other quick and easy projects.
