Well, folks, I finally did it! I jumped right up on the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint bandwagon. Yes indeedy! Now, granted, this bandwagon is pretty full and my rear end barely made it on there.
In fact, I think I might actually be in the rear of the little donkey cart being pulled along behind the bandwagon! But, that still counts right?
As part of the mini-makeover I am doing in my son’s room, we moved this armoire/dresser/cabinet (?) from the playroom into here. It has had many incarnations over the years and was originally in my bedroom in high school. But the dark stain and brass handles didn’t exactly say “boy’s room”. I think it said, “I look old and tired so please put me out of my misery”!
I knew this would be the perfect opportunity for me to join the AS Chalk Paint Crew!
What do you think? TONS better, no? I used the color Old Ochre and while it did take a good 2-3 coats to really cover up the dark stain, I think it turned out beautifully! The new oiled bronze hardware really pops and give it such a fresh look.
I think this new color shows off the detail so much more!
I decided against doing a lot of distressing on this piece. There is so much going on in this room that I was afraid it would be too busy. So leaving it simple and crisp seemed to be the best way to go! It is so weird how different the color of the wall looks depending on the time of day! But, I am completely in love with this piece of furniture now and it has totally changed the look of the space.
I have a few finishing touches to add to his room and then I will be able to share with you the reveal of this mini-makeover. Finally! I know you are all on pins and needles, right?
Anyone? cricket…cricket…
Lol, Vanessa you are surely not in the donkey cart. I love the new armoire! Wow, what a difference that makes in the room! Looking forward to seeing more of his room. You are moving along quicker than you thought on his room, remember you said something about 10 years from now? 😉
Absolutely gorgeous! Amazing transformation!
Vanessa, you haven’t used this paint before. Wow. The armoire looks fantastic.
The dresser looks fabulous Vanessa! The color and the new hardware are perfect for the color of your son’s room!
After seeing this…I really want to do the chests in my son’s room’s chests ….so I will be the absolute LAST on the bandwagon.
Vanessa- Better late than never! I LOVE it…and I really like that it is not heavily distressed. It looks clean and fresh in the room. Perfect makeover and I love the hardware you chose. xo Diana
Vanessa, it looks so good I like it so much better painted. The hardware is great. Have a great day!

WOW, totally different piece!! LOVE it 🙂
It looks wonderful. It always amazes me what a little paint can do to a piece and white paint is the best!
NEVER ceases to amaze me what paint can do. It’s like, you KNOW it’s going to look different but then it’s goes, WHAM! I look awesome now, just stand there and gaze at me =)
Looks WONDERFUL ~ Love the crisp freshness and the hardware =)
looks great, I love the new hardware you chose 🙂
it turned out soooooooooo beautiful!
Oh, that turned out great! Don’t worry you are not the last to jump on the ASCP bandwagon…………….I haven’t jumped on yet!
Wow – love this makeover!! You did a great job choosing the color and painting it….I think it looks perfect not distressed. Did you sand the piece before painting it with the chalk paint? Did you use a brush or roller? I have yet to try chalk paint, but it is on my to-do list! Thanks for sharing this beautiful dressser! Heather @ settingforfour.blogspot.com
I love it, Vanessa! The hardware really brings it up-to-date, too. Can I ask where you got it? I have to replace hardware on a piece but I want to keep it similar and I need one of those pulls. So nice to give pieces we already have new life!
Wow.Wow.Wow. You didn’t join the crew Vanessa. You blew us out of the water! : ) Amazing transformation! Love it! Love, Me http://www.youaretalkingtoomuch.com
Welcome to the club. I love the armoire. It really updates the look. I think the hardware you chose is perfect. It looks great in his room and I can’t wait for the full reveal.
What a difference paint makes!!…I just finished a table in the ASCP…great stuff!! and so, so easy and forgiving…not to mention very little prep work…The dresser looks wonderful!
Looks fabulous! Isn’t that paint awesome? I’m right there with ya on the wagon! 🙂

Vanessa that piece turned out great!
It looks great, Vanessa! I’ll look forward to seeing the whole room. You did a great job revitalizing this piece, both in color choice and hardware choice. 🙂

That could now be guessed to be an expensive piece of brand new furniture from a ritzy store! What a transformation. Did you have to do a lot of prep to paint over that stained & varnished/polyurethane? finish? Seem to remember with ASP you don’t have to? And it’s really low EOV, right? My asthma is SO fragile now I have to rethink what I’ll be using. I haven’t heard it advertised locally either, I’m up north in CT, LOL.
Janet
LOVE IT!!!!
Although I am an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ retailer and practically paint with it everyday of my life now…I am still always in awe of what this incredible paint can do. Your piece looks so expensive and chic. Don’t you just puff out your chest with pride just a little bit whenever you look at that piece now…you should!
well done my dear!

PS…do you mind if I share (linked directly to your blog) with our private Annie Sloan Stockist Facebook page? We love posts like yours.

I love the hardware too. And the paint color! Did you brush on three coats? Can you use a roller with calk paint?
Carleen…you can use a roller, however you waste a lot of paint that way. I have found too much of It stays in the roller. I do use a small sponge roller when I stencil with Chalk Paint™

Thanks. I just thought a roller would make for less coats!
Fun isn’t it. And WOW what a difference. You must try CoCo.
It really looks good Vanessa. That piece has been around a long time – but it never has looked better. The wood is solid Alder so we’re glad you could keep it but get the look you wanted.
Good job!
Mom
Seriously…to think that was even the same piece…I would never dream of it. Gorgeous job! You better watch out now..you will be hooked!
What a difference! Very handsome!
Wow, is it truly the same piece? It turned out beautifully, Vanessa!

You did an INCREDIBLE job! Will you please come to my house?!? I’ll make you some cookies! 🙂
That piece was definitely due for a makeover. It looks quite chic now! I’m sure your son will do the distressing in time. lol ~ Maureen
That looks wonderful. Congratulations on a job well done.
Again, Vanessa, it looks awesome! Since I wrote about my chalk paint adventures, I’ve learned that “chalk paint” is a registered trademark of Annie Sloan. Who knew? I’ve amended my original article to make that clear. You were smart to just go ahead and buy some ASCP!
Beautiful transformation….this piece is gorgeous!!!
Oh my goodness, it looks great! I love ASCP! Love it!
Debbie
Welcome aboard! ASCP is fantastic! I love the colors and am about to do a couple project myself – love the transformation and the knobs and pulls are perfect! It does bring out the warmth of the wall color wonderfully!
Great job,
Kathy

Welcome aboard, Vanessa! There’s no turning back now, girl! lol! Lovely transformation on that gorgeous dresser. Those new pulls really add chicness to it! 🙂
xoxo laurie
Just Lovely I have yet to try Annie Sloan’s paints 🙂
YAY, Vanessa! You’d never be able to tell that this was your first time with the paint because you did an amazing job! I LOVE the armoire painted Old White … it was meant to be! And, I’m willing to bet that this won’t be the one and only time you use it, friend!
I’ve been wanting to try ASCP for so long but just haven’t done it. Awesome call on the new pulls, they look fantastic on this piece – what a transformation. We can’t wait to feature you on Friday – just such a cool transformation!
And I’ll be behind your donkey cart since I’m a ASCP virgin!
But seeing your amazing transformation, I need to run right out to the nearest store and buy me some and get cracking!
Love the new knobs too!

Apparently, someone representing Annie Sloan is giving the impression that they have a trademark on the words, “Chalk Paint”. Not true. A.S. has trademarked her logo with Chalk Paint in all capital letters. Her chalk paint logo has a distinctive chalky looking font. She does not have exclusive rights to those words, even though people are being contacted all over with the implication no one else can use the words chalk paint. Oh yes they can!
You can Google trademarks and look up her trademark description. You can also go to the US Gov trademark site to see more information, though the search is much trickier.
In a nutshell, the description of the A.S. trademark is –
Description of Mark – The mark consists of stylized terms “CHALK PAINT” in all capital letters.
