Kitchen and Family Room Makeover

Happy Saturday friends! On behalf of my friend Kara (who is the one who gets to live in the gorgeous new spaces I’ve been showing you!) and myself we’d like to say a big huge THANK YOU for all of your lovely comments the past two days!

This was such a long process for Kara and her husband Caleb but he got to go to work each day while she, on the other hand, was living in the midst of chaos while their home was being remodeled. Oh and they have 5 kids. She deserves a trophy don’t you think? 😉

Today we’re sharing with you the changes made to the rest of the kitchen along with the family room.

After coming through the front door and through the entry you would have to turn right and then go through another door to get to the kitchen and family room.

Here is how it looked BEFORE

At the last minute Kara decided to have this cabinet built to like a free-standing piece. And then on a whim she decided to have it painted this gorgeous shade of blue instead of the white used in the rest of the kitchen.

Isn’t it AMAZING?!! It is seriously my most favorite part of the kitchen!

This is a homeschooling family so the addition of workspace was a MUST and having two desks means an easier school day for kids and mama both.

There was great debate about whether or not to paint the brick surrounding the fireplace.

But ultimately they decided to not to paint it but to have a beautiful custom mantel made instead.

The backs of the bookcases were painted white which completely lightened up this wall.

The rooster pillow is the perfect nod to this family’s new life in this home.

And everywhere you look you see signs of how much they have embraced a reality that is far better than any of their dreams.

So what do you think so far? Did you get a chance to see the kitchen makeover?

How about the front door and entry transformation?

Be sure to come back next week when we’ll share the final room in this home renovation.

Have a fantastic weekend friends!

Beautiful counter tops. They look like wood. If so what type of wood? This is exactly what I am looking for!

Thank you, Rosemary! The blue hutch countertop is wood, but the desk/kitchen countertops are granite with a leathered (matte) finish.

Oh my goodness. This is lovely!!! I am debating on some open shelving in our renovation and this just tipped me into the “heck yeah!” position. Love the blue cabinet. Makes me so impatient for the city to give us the go ahead on all our plans!

Thank you, Lynn! I’m glad I tipped the scale to open shelving, as I’m a huge fan! The floors are a pre-finished wide plank, distressed oak. Good luck on your own remodel!

Can you tell me if her cabinets are a light yellow, walls white, black counters? This is just absolute perfection to me as well!

Thank you so much, Hope! It sounds like we have similar taste. The cabinets and the plank wall in the kitchen, as well as the trim throughout are cream (Sherwin Williams Summer White) and the opposite wall with the blue hutch and desk is yellow (Behr Charismatic). The counters are actually a dark brown granite, though without light shining directly on them, they do look more black. Thank you for asking!

After a weeklong vacation, we all feel so happy to be back in our haven. As a homemaker in the truest sense of the word (the maker of a home), knowing my husband and children consider this the place where they feel the most relaxed and at peace means all of my intentions and efforts in this area are worthwhile. It’s not perfect and WE are not perfect by a long stretch. But, it’s where we feel the most free to be imperfect. And that makes it pretty wonderful! 🌱

I’m working on a blog post to share all of the details of our family room shelving makeover but I’m super impatient and just had to give you all a sneak peek!! We are SO happy with how they turned out and it finally looks like I’ve always envisioned. Our quick fix years ago (scroll to see the before photo) never felt quite right but now? Soooo much better!! 🙌🏻 Big shoutout to our amazingly talented friend Matt @redemptive_woodworx for bringing our vision to life and doing such impeccable work.

I hope you all have a great start to the 4th of July weekend and make sure to check my stories later for Friday Funnies!

When I started blogging, he was only 6 years old and some of you have been apart of my community here for that entire time. Now, he's 19 and there is a reason parents are told not to blink because the years truly do go faster than I ever could have imagined. He has become such an incredible young man we are so excited to see how God is going to unfold the next chapter of his life. We celebrated with parties galore (SO many open houses to attend!) and made memories we'll forever cherish. My mama heart was filled to bursting with the joy of it all! Now we're taking some time to just enjoy these warm, summer days making even more memories because, when you’re at this stage of parenting, you know all too well how much you need to grasp every opportunity to spend time together.

I hope your summer is off to a great start too dear friends! 🪴

Happy first day of summer dear friends!! I can’t believe it’s been so long since I posted something new here but life has been crazy. I’ll have some new photos of house projects and life events to share with you soon but, got now, I’m just going to enjoy this gorgeous first day of summer after our ridiculously long, wet spring. ☀️
