Kitchen Makeover Sneak Peek

Recently I was shocked and horrified to find out that my mom will almost always peek ahead and read the end of new book. Even a mystery novel!! For her suspense-loving daughter this was mind-boggling. She said that it helps her to be more relaxed as she reads the story knowing how it all ends up.

And while I will not be making this a habit in my literary adventures, I suppose I can see the merits of getting a little sneak peek now and then.

Which is why I thought I might give you one today of my kitchen makeover!

white kitchen cabinets preview

It’s been a few weeks since the painting was completed and yet every day when I come downstairs I’m still in shock over how different it looks. How light and bright and cheerful.

I snapped some photos immediately after putting everything back into the cupboards (nothing like emptying out your kitchen to remind you of how badly you needed to clean things out. Yikes!) and you’ll see that they have the old knobs on them.

But, since then I’ve received these beautiful new ones from D. Lawless Hardware and they couldn’t be more perfect.

After the full reveal I’ll have a fun giveaway for you from them!

I still have a few more changes to make before you can see the rest. I had to order a piece of glass for the top of the kitchen desk and I’m making some decisions about the backsplash.

But I thought that, in the meantime, you might enjoy seeing this little sneak peek.

I know my mom will! 😉

Have a great weekend and thanks for meeting me at the fence today,

How exciting! Looks like the painting was a huge success. Hope you’ll share what method the painters used–I’m guessing the new finish was sprayed on? I’d love the skinny on that.

So glad you’re enjoying your new, light-filled space!

Thanks for the pic’s of your pretty kitchen. One of the many things I really like about your blog is your organization and scheduling of home updates. It seems you plan and can be patient like we (have to) do in our home. (Some of the bloggers work at such a maniac pace, it’s overwhelming.). My current kitchen is the first white kitchen I’ve ever had and I’ve just loved it so much. Hope you’ll feel the same about yours!

one question…are the edged of the granite rough…..if so then watch out….we had granite tile like that in CO and the edged were rough…..ruined many tops….ended up wearing an apron everyday in the kitchen till get got slab granite

but what a nice change….amazing what a touch of paint will do

we moved into this house beginning of June….and knew the kitchen had to go….honey oak and the cabinet doors would not shut…..and frankly I like taller uppers….so we are having a whole new kitchen put in…everything…..as the appliances are old too….husband is going to reuse a bank of uppers for the garage so it won’t all be trashed…

in the laundry the cabinets were an odd pinkish color, hey the house was build in 1994….but in great condition…so husband painted them for me….WOW, what a difference….and I bought knobs for the doors too…as there were NONE….and I kept trying to open 1 door the wrong way….LOL….

we are keeping the bathroom cabinets….as they are in much better condition than the kitchen….but we are having granite counter tops put on and NEW faucets….the clear plastic crystal looking MUST GO!!! lol and I did buy new knobs for those rooms too…..

    it’s been a long 2 months…and still a month to go…..quickly I HOPE!!!

Hi Shelley! Thankfully the edge of our granite isn’t rough because that would definitely not be fun! Sounds like you have had quite a lot of work on your home but I’m sure it’s all turning out beautifully. Thanks so much for coming by!

well I see a glaring TYPO in my reply….lol…..EDGES….NOT edged….duh….lol
happy to hear it’s not rough….ruined many great tops before I started wearing an apron….actually 1 I made with a sturdy dish towel and some twill tape….and cheap too….lol
this is the first “used” home we have purchased since 1978…..that one was a 1928 Spanish style in La Mesa, CA….and needed MORE work than this home…..lol….so been there done that…and at almost 62….I think I am just about OVER IT!!!!!
        lol
and I love your blog….it’s an easy read…

Thank you so much. Most don’t want their readers to see a work in progress, but I do! That’s the way most of us have to do it…..a little at a time. BTW, love all your crown molding . It is beautiful and so thick.

Beautiful! We are in the midst of a redo, too! Now to make decisions on what goes back into those cabinets…and decisions on countertops, backsplash and paint colors are still swirling.

Happy Independence Day!! 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙 M Happy Independence Day!! 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙

May we never take for granted the freedom given to us not by earthly authorities but by the ONE true authority. And may we live in such a way as to honor those who fought for and protect freedom and liberty.

Happy Friday!! I’m working on a blog post to sha Happy Friday!! I’m working on a blog post to share all of the details of our family room shelving makeover but I’m super impatient and just had to give you all a sneak peek!! We are SO happy with how they turned out and it finally looks like I’ve always envisioned. Our quick fix years ago (scroll to see the before photo) never felt quite right but now? Soooo much better!! 🙌🏻 Big shoutout to our amazingly talented friend Matt @redemptive_woodworx for bringing our vision to life and doing such impeccable work.

I hope you all have a great start to the 4th of July weekend and make sure to check my stories later for Friday Funnies!
The month of June is coming to a close and it has The month of June is coming to a close and it has been JAM packed! The highlight by far though was my son's graduation from high school. When I started blogging, he was only 6 years old and some of you have been apart of my community here for that entire time. Now, he's 19 and there is a reason parents are told not to blink because the years truly do go faster than I ever could have imagined. He has become such an incredible young man we are so excited to see how God is going to unfold the next chapter of his life. We celebrated with parties galore (SO many open houses to attend!) and made memories we'll forever cherish. My mama heart was filled to bursting with the joy of it all! Now we're taking some time to just enjoy these warm, summer days making even more memories because, when you’re at this stage of parenting, you know all too well how much you need to grasp every opportunity to spend time together.

I hope your summer is off to a great start too dear friends! 🪴

Happy first day of summer dear friends!! I can’t believe it’s been so long since I posted something new here but life has been crazy. I’ll have some new photos of house projects and life events to share with you soon but, got now, I’m just going to enjoy this gorgeous first day of summer after our ridiculously long, wet spring. ☀️

This is one of my most favorite projects from my b This is one of my most favorite projects from my book Life in Season!

Because, if heaven has a fragrance, I’m fairly certain it smells like lilacs.

I think that somewhere along the way the verse in the Bible that said, ‘heaven will smell like lilacs’ just got lost in translation. But it HAD to have been in there at some point, right?

When I bury my head in the blossoms (which I absolutely MUST do every single time I walk past them), I immediately feel a stirring in my soul.

It seems like I wait forever for my lilac tree to bloom. Every year I anxiously watch as the buds begin to form on the branches and then when the blossoms finally burst forth I begin that agonizing process of deciding the absolute perfect moment to snip them and bring them inside.

And then, after all of that waiting and watching it’s just over…done. Because, unlike heaven, lilacs don’t last for an eternity. So, making my own lilac room spray seemed like the perfect way to enjoy their fragrance long after the blossoms have faded.

Here’s how to make it! Ingredients: Water, Vodka, Lilac fragrance oil. Directions: Fill spray bottle with 50/50 ratio of water to vodka. Add 12 drops of lilac oil. Give it a shake, spray and if the scent isn’t strong enough, simply add a few more drops of lilac oil.

Once you’ve made this lilac scented room spray you will be very tempted to spray it in every room in your house. And someone may want to use it in the bathroom to cover up other less…ummmm….pleasing aromas.

But, do not, I repeat do NOT, let them.

You’ve captured the fragrance of heaven in a bottle and you wouldn’t want to go and tarnish it now would you? 😉
We had two back to back days of sunshine (the most We had two back to back days of sunshine (the most we’ve had in a LONG time) and now we are back to pouring rain. This has officially confirmed what I’ve know to be true for awhile now.

I’m a MUCH better version of myself when the sun is shining! 🤪 So I’ll just be over here today plotting and planning how my husband and I can be snowbirds someday when the kids are out of the house.

If you could spend your winters (and apparently most of spring too!) in any part of the country, where would it be?
Happy weekend sweet friends!! We’ve had a LOT of Happy weekend sweet friends!! We’ve had a LOT of rain lately (which is saying something when you live in Oregon) and I’ll admit that it’s affecting my moods a bit. I feel like I’m dragging and struggling to find the energy to get stuff done. So don’t mind me if I’m over here looking at photos of my garden in the summertime and finding that it keeps me hopeful about those days to come. They will come, right?! 🤪.

What are your favorite plants that you look forward to seeing in the summer?
