My house looks better in the Fall. It just does.
It’s like it’s been patient all year just waiting for this time.
For the flip-flops to be replaced with socks and slippers. For the mulled cider candle to have it’s inaugural lighting. For me to step out on the front porch in the early morning hours and feel that chill in the air while the steam rises from my hot cup of coffee. For evenings filled with running through the sprinklers and watching fireworks in the sky to be replaced by foot-y jammies and watching the glow of logs in the fireplace.
It’s like my house just knows how much I love this season and it wants to rise to the occasion.
And I think it really likes that this year I simplified. The decorations were softer and didn’t involve anything that took more than 15 minutes.
And some only took 5 minutes! After one of my daily weekly frequent visits to the Pottery Barn website I did my usual once-over perusal where I soak it all in and drool for a little bit before I go back through the items to see what things I might be able to recreate in a way that better suits my budget. These jumped out at me as I knew I had most of what I needed already on hand.
Small glass plates.
And crystal candle holders.
I don’t want to make it sound like I don’t appreciate my house in all of the other seasons.
At Christmas it seems so jolly and filled to the rafters with anticipation.
And through the winter it’s a cozy place of refuge.
In the spring, it seems to awaken from hibernation and welcome the fresh start. And in the summer it’s filled with kids and friends and the evening light stretching on forever.
But in the fall, well, it somehow seems to magically capture all the best parts of every season. There’s still enough light after dinner to run around outside. But when the air gets cooler there’s a cozy spot in front of the fireplace. The Christmas catalogs have started to arrive but there is still that occasional day where it is warm enough for flip-flops.
And I think my house, like me, knows that this is when it feels the most alive!

Thanks so much for meeting me at the Fence today,
The decorations look great. Since this type of decorating is temporary I don’t like to spend too much money on it. Also — storage! Where do you put all of the New Year/Valentine/St. Patrick/Easter/Memorial Day/July 4th/Summer/Fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas decorations?? We downsized and we barely have room for our clothes 🙁 So what you’ve done is very attractive and doable! Thank you for the Pottery Barn idea.
I love a natural look. My house looks best in the fall, too. It always has, but since I have basically transformed the entire downstairs in the past year and a half, it looks even more so now.
I am enjoying bringing the fall inside more than ever. Your style is lovely.
Thanks so much Debbie! It put a big smile on my face to see your comment pop up friend! 🙂
Good Morning!! You hit it right on the button!! I feel the same way, especially when we only have 2 seasons, Spring & Summer since we live in the Desert, Palm Springs
Love your fall. Such a clever idea with the candles, and I adore wheat, so perfect.
Thanks so much Marty!!
Your decorations are so lovely and make me want to pull out the glass candlesticks, too! So pretty!
