Do you ever hold onto something and you aren’t exactly sure why but you just KNOW that there is a reason? I’ve been eyeing some really darling vintage-styled dryer sheet holders in various online stores but I just couldn’t ever bring myself to buy one.
Perhaps I knew that what I really wanted was right under my nose (or in my attic!) all along!
I’ve realized recently that I seem to fluctuate between two extremes when it comes to the ‘stuff’ in our house.
I’m either like a crazy lady on a mission to purge every single room in the house and nothing is safe from being thrown into the donation pile.
Or I’m the ‘you are going to have to pry this out of my cold dead hands’ lady who just can’t seem to part with certain items.
I really don’t want to keep stuff just for the sake of keeping it and I try very hard to not become overly attached to ‘things’. But then there are those times when I’m so glad that I hesitated before putting an item in the donation pile.
Case in point…this recipe card holder.
I’m fairly certain it cost less than $10. And I never used it for holding recipes. And it hasn’t been in my kitchen for at least 3 years now.
But I always felt it was destined to have another chance…another purpose.
And the other day as I was putting away some things in the attic, I saw it sitting there under a pile of faux flowers and all of a sudden I knew exactly what it was destined to be!
I attached a bracket to the back.
And hung it on the wall in the laundry room.
The dryer sheets came out of the cardboard box in the cupboard and went right into their new home!
I think it adds just the right touch of charm to the laundry room and there is nothing quite as pretty to me as something that has been given new life at no cost!
I’m so thrilled to be joining these lovely ladies again this month for our ongoing Budget Decorating Series!
Make sure you pay all of them a visit for more budget-friendly ideas and inspiration!
You are just like me! I am a little manic when it comes to things I like. I still have every paper my children brought home from school from pre to high school graduation. They are all in neat boxes and I have not looked at them in years but they are safe. And if I ever need a major good sentimental ugly cry they are waiting for me! LOVE the new and repurposed used for your sweet little recipe, or should I say, dryer sheet box!!! Smart and savvy! I’ll have to find one for my laundry room too! Boy, do I like a good idea almost as much as my kids school papers!
I must say…you are all so delightful to read along with and you have all brought such joy to my heart and such fun and beauty to my eyes….thank you for sharing these lovely ideas….with me ! Enjoy the SONshine !
Oh Jayne!! What an absolutely wonderful compliment. Thank you so much for your encouraging and supportive words! 🙂
I love your idea too! I’m going to look for something I can use for the same idea. Much prettier than the box sitting out. Hugs,
Great idea for that cute recipe box!
First off, I love it! Second and random, but what is the color of your wall? It looks exactly like what I have been searching for a room in my house?
Very charming and a great idea for that old recipe card holder, Vanessa!
