Sharing HomeTalk and some exciting news!

We mentioned this great website at Inspiration Friday this past week, but wanted to share some more details with you!

HomeTalk

HomeTalk.com is an amazing resource for homeowners, renters and anyone interested in making a “house a home”. At HomeTalk you can find everything from inspiring projects shared by other members, answers to questions (and you can ask your own), professionals in your community (who are active members of HomeTalk) and keep track of ideas you find for future projects for our own home!

What we love most about HomeTalk is the sense of community.  People are quick to answer questions another member might have. Everything from “do you recognize this plant?” To, “can you give me some lighting ideas for my cottage?”

It’s also a great way for BLOGGERS to share their amazing talent! HomeTalk appreciates the contribution from the blogging community and will often feature their projects on the HomeTalk Facebook page, which has over 380,000 followers!

Talk about a great way to get your talent noticed!

But, even if you aren’t a blogger you can still create an account at HomeTalk and upload your photos and a description of your project for others to see. What a great way to get affirmation and feedback on your hard work!

The HomeTalk community is very active in commenting and conversing.  Take for instance Vanessa’s “If You Don’t Have a White Kitchen” post.

As you can see not only has she received tons of page views but it has also generated a very lively discussion on white kitchens!

Recently Shirley at Housepitality Designs shared her sunroom

and has not only received lots of views, but was also featured on the Facebook Page…yeah Shirley!

HomeTalk also stays connected with their community through the HomeTalk Twitter Page as well as through the HomeTalk Pinterest Boards!

In fact, we’d love you to follow the DIY that Inspires Board where you’ll find our pins of stand-out, trending projects from the HomeTalk website!

Which leads us to our exciting news!

The gals here At The Picket Fence have been invited to serve as HomeTalk Ambassadors!
This means that we will be working with HomeTalk to connect the blogging community and our readers with this amazing resource!

Here’s what we need you to do! Take just a second…right now…go…go…lol and sign up for HomeTalk.com  on the website and take a moment to follow them on Facebook, and while you’re at it go ahead and follow us on the DIY that Inspires Board over at Pinterest!  Be sure to sign up through a link here on the blog…and come right back…

HomeTalk

…okay, welcome back! Now how does all of this benefit you? Besides the obvious of HomeTalk being a great place to hang out and talk “all things home” as mentioned above; it can be a great place to share your projects!

So take a moment to pick a few of your best “DIY, home improvement, and home related” content (please steer clear of crafty type projects) and share it over at HomeTalk.  Make sure to follow us over at HomeTalk while you’re at it and we’ll be sure to follow you back! We’ll be keeping an eye out for our top picks and sharing them on OUR Facebook Wall as well as on the DIY that Inspires Pinterest Board.

Miriam of HomeTalk has shared some great blog posts on HOW BEST to submit your projects and get them noticed:

Getting Started on HomeTalk
How To Post Projects
How To Share a Compelling Project

So that’s all there is to it! An opportunity to be a part of a great community and resource that is growing everyday by leaps and bounds!

As part of the HomeTalk Ambassadors programs we will be featuring HomeTalk projects on our Facebook Page on a regular basis, pinning and tweeting amazing finds from HomeTalk and also sharing some of the best of the best from Inspiration Friday over at HomeTalk each week! We also have some other fun plans up our sleeve that we’ll be sharing with you soon!

So, are you convinced yet that HomeTalk is amazing?!

We sure hope so…and we look forward to working with you, our readers, and HomeTalk connecting amazing bloggers and homeowners with HomeTalk.com!

We are serving as representatives of HomeTalk.com, but all opinions are our own.  Please see our Disclosure Policy for more information.

I love Hometalk and have posted a few project on my page there. The one problem I’ve had in the past is that my photos won’t load since they are 12-18 megapixel and are probably too large. Hometalk is definitely a great site though!

Top four reasons I like Hometalk:
    (1) They have amazing inspiration (like Shirley’s porch that she just posted, too)!
    (2) I have an old house with old house questions. And I need answers.
    (3) It’a a great place to find out if I should paint my couch with chalk paint….LOL 🙂
    (4) I get to hang out with you girls over there 🙂

Thanks rock stars for all the inspiration!

Hi Suzy! Was it because you have to enter a zip code when you sign up? I will see if this prevents a non US resident to enroll for some reason.

Matthew 7:13-14 says, “Enter through the narrow Matthew 7:13-14 says, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.”.
.
When I was a little girl we took a trip to Silver Dollar City theme park in Branson, MO. One of the attractions there is the Marvel Cave. The whole theme park was actually built right around the cave! I will never forget the feeling of descending into the darkness. We had to walk down a steep, narrow path and I could feel the rocky walls beginning to close in on me. From time to time, our guide would even have to call out for us to duck our heads so as not to whack them on rocks that were jutting out. And just when it felt like we had been walking forever; just when it felt the most narrow and the most dark; just when we were starting to get really weary from navigating this path, we turned the corner and found ourselves awestruck as we gazed at this enormous room. Everywhere we looked there were stalactites and stalagmites. Lights had been installed and they reflected off of these formations creating the most beautiful colors on the walls. There were pools of water in a shade of aquamarine I had never seen before and waterfalls flowing from upper levels. That long, winding, damp trek had been so very worth it. The descent into darkness had revealed light…and life!

My prayer for you friends, is that you will look at that narrow path with the small gate as an opportunity. It’s an opportunity to experience the kind of freedom that our souls are longing for. The wide and broad path of the world promises us a freedom that is fleeting and temporary. But at the end of the narrow path, there is hope and peace and life everlasting.

I’m choosing the narrow path. And in spite of the hardships, in spite of the challenges and the fears and the times that can feel as dark as the journey down into a cave, I wouldn’t trade a single minute of it.

After a weeklong vacation, we all feel so happy to be back in our haven. As a homemaker in the truest sense of the word (the maker of a home), knowing my husband and children consider this the place where they feel the most relaxed and at peace means all of my intentions and efforts in this area are worthwhile. It’s not perfect and WE are not perfect by a long stretch. But, it’s where we feel the most free to be imperfect. And that makes it pretty wonderful! 🌱

When I started blogging, he was only 6 years old and some of you have been apart of my community here for that entire time. Now, he's 19 and there is a reason parents are told not to blink because the years truly do go faster than I ever could have imagined. He has become such an incredible young man we are so excited to see how God is going to unfold the next chapter of his life. We celebrated with parties galore (SO many open houses to attend!) and made memories we'll forever cherish. My mama heart was filled to bursting with the joy of it all! Now we're taking some time to just enjoy these warm, summer days making even more memories because, when you’re at this stage of parenting, you know all too well how much you need to grasp every opportunity to spend time together.

I hope your summer is off to a great start too dear friends! 🪴

I’ll have some new photos of house projects and life events to share with you soon but, got now, I’m just going to enjoy this gorgeous first day of summer after our ridiculously long, wet spring. ☀️
