My husband asked me last week what I would like for Mother’s Day this year. And, honestly, all I could think of was that I didn’t want to have to plan a single meal and I didn’t want to have to clean a single dish. No cooking. No cleaning.
You see, my love language is ‘acts of service’. I’ll take getting my car detailed over getting a piece of jewelry any day!
So, when it comes to as special of an occasion as Mother’s Day, for me, sweet and simple is best. Personalized, homemade, thoughtful, these are all of the things that mean the most to me when it comes to gifts.
That’s why I thought that I would show you just a few of my favorite projects I’ve done over the years which are not only simple and sweet but also very friendly to the budget.
If you’re hosting Mother’s Day at your home this year, adding something personal to each place setting is such a charming touch. All I did here was to print out a black and white photo of me and my mom, punched a hole in the corner and tied it onto the napkin with a ribbon. Add a sprig of flowers and you have such a sweet and simple way of saying ‘I love you’. You can see more of this table setting here.
My kiddos always loved bringing me little flowers when we would go on our walks. Actually, my daughter (almost 10) still does it and I can’t even begin to tell you how much I cherish those treasures. So, I thought, why not capture the sweet memory of those moments by creating a necklace so you just carry it with you always. You can see just how easy it is to make this here.
Another simple way to tell mom you love her is to actually spell it out with this adorable Scrabble letter framed art. It’s so easy to make and would be a perfect way to get the kids involved.
And while this project has never been featured here on the blog it IS included in our book ‘Life in Season’.
And, speaking of ‘Life in Season’ (like how I did that segue there?), it too makes such a GREAT gift for Mother’s Day and it’s on sale now at all of these retailers.
It’s always so fun to share ideas and inspiration like these with my Thrifty Style Team each month and we’re back here with you today with more ways to help you bring style to your home without breaking the bank.
Thanks so much for meeting me at the fence today sweet friends,
All of your Mother’s Day projects are so beautiful and I totally agree with you….acts of service beat jewelry any and every day in my book.
Have a wonderful Mother’s Day! xo
Rick asked me the same thing and I actually told him I feel strange when everyone is catering to me, so we are going to just spend the day like every other Sunday-working around the house hopefully gardening. I know I’m crazy. Happy Mother’s Day to you, Heather & your Mom’s. I loved the slide photo, so cute!
A picnic out in nature or a drive to a scenic spot was always my favorite. I feel close to God and at peace in a natural setting.
Yep, give me a car detail over jewelry any day! And, I have Life in Season on “highest priority” on my Amazon wishlist. If I don’t see it on Mother’s Day, I will be buying my fifth copy for myself (gave away my other 4 copies!)
Oh wow Julie!!! Thank you SO much for buying so many copies of Life in Season!! We are beyond grateful and we hope that your very own copy will be awaiting you on Mother’s Day. Blessings to you!
I am pretty fortunate to have six kids and six kids who will do acts of aervice for me this Sunday. From planting my flowers to moving some sand and gravel. I cheat though…i ask for services that actually help dad too.
your hubby has it going on…mine hasn’t even asked me yet! all of your ideas are so lovely and would make any mom a happy recipient. enjoy your day.
