An Autumn Home Tour

*Welcome to my home all dressed up for Autumn*

When the world feels heavy, sometimes we can be tempted to wonder if things like decorating for a new season even matter. And yet, I believe that when there is chaos happening outside our doors, what we do inside matters all the more.

This Autumn I’m finding that the responsibility I have in my role as a homemaker has taken on even deeper significance. While it’s true that there is so much that I don’t have control over, one area in which I do is my home. And it’s my responsibility to make this a place that feels peaceful and stable.

 

 

 

Cooking meals, cleaning, doing laundry and yes, decorating for a new season, are not of lesser importance in troubled times. In fact, they are of even greater importance when life feels chaotic and confusing.

 

 

Rather than looking upon our daily tasks as unimportant, think of them as gifts that contribute to the sense of stability we are called to create in our homes.

 

 

When I pull out my fall decor and add a few pots of fresh mums and pumpkins here and there, I’m reminded of just how much assurance we have in knowing that the Lord who is sovereign over the seasons is always in control and never surprised by what is happening.

 

 

If you are finding yourself feeling overwhelmed by what is happening in the world, in your community or even in your own personal life, may I suggest that you choose today to focus on what is within your control?

 

 

Maybe it really is doing something as simple as celebrating the beauty of this season with a few decorative items around your home.

 

 

Or going on the annual pumpkin patch visit with your family.

 

 

Maybe it’s making a favorite fall meal or baked goodies.

 

 

Or snuggling on the couch to watch a feel good movie.

 

 

Whatever it is, remember that these seemingly simple things have great value. And, while they may not necessarily change our circumstances, they do help to change how we feel towards those circumstances by providing us a time of respite and a place that is a haven.

 

 

Never forget that the greatest ministry and discipleship we will ever do happens inside our homes.
