Citrus and Evergreen~A Christmas Copycat

108-1

It’s here! It’s here!!
I am so excited that this party is getting started and I cannot wait for what is going to be happening around Blogland this week! Can you tell I’m just a tad bit eager?
We have so many great things in store for all of you this week including some AMAZING GIVEAWAYS…I mean, seriously amazing folks! Like, if we didn’t think you all were so wonderful and want you to have a chance to enter to win these prizes we would seriously just keep them all for ourselves!
Did I mention they are amazing? Winking smile
We can’t think of a better way to start this Block Party then by heading over to Debbie’s place for a Copycat Challenge. And I’m pretty sure I have picked the easiest thing you could ever try and copy!
When I saw this arrangement
Christmas Decorating Idea: Hurricane Arrangement
from Southern Living on Pinterest I knew it was just right for me. Cheap and easy…wait…not that I’m cheap and easy…I just like cheap and easy projects…errr….ummmm…you know what I mean!

I already had an oversized footed glass vase which had been a $7 TJ Maxx purchase and I knew that I wanted to use it on the side table in my dining room. So, this was the perfect way add some simple but elegant Christmas Cheer using mostly what I had on hand.
098-1
I always have oranges in our home this time of year as a way to try and fight my sweet tooth. TRY being the operative word there! The cranberries came from the giant bag I bought for Thanksgiving and keep stored in the freezer to just use as needed. And the limes? Well, my limes are fake!
118-1
I have lots of faux fruit and this seemed like the perfect way to save a few bucks!
In fact, you could do this entire arrangement using faux fruit, cranberries and greenery if you wanted and have it last a lot longer.

105-1

I thought I would have some extra trimmings from our Christmas tree but didn’t end up with as much as I had hoped for. So, I purchased a big bunch of fresh evergreen from Wal-Mart for $5!
You can find these in the fresh flower section of the store and they are such a great way to add color and texture, not to mention wonderful aroma, to your home this time of year without spending a lot.

100-1

I just love the color combination and how fresh and crisp it looks, especially with my homemade boxwood wreath hanging above it. Boxwood wreaths are so expensive and as much as I love them I just wasn’t willing to shell out the money for one. So, I simply purchased a small $4 grapevine wreath and using my %40 off coupon at Michael’s bought up a long garland of boxwood.
By wrapping it around the front of the wreath and wiring it to the grapevine branches, I got the look of a boxwood wreath for much less! Hung on the mirror with a Command Hook, I love how it adds a decorative touch without being overly “Christmas-y”. I might just keep it up through the winter!

113-1

Not only have I been hurrying to get everything done to get ready for the Blogger Block Party, I was also anticipating the party taking place on the block where we actually live! We hosted a Neighborhood Open House this weekend and it was such a wonderful way to usher in the season. Getting to know your neighbors beyond just a quick wave and maybe a “nice lawn you’ve got there” is so important! We are so thrilled to not only consider them our neighbors but also to call them our friends.
So, what about you, you party animals?
I can’t wait to see all of the amazing creations you have come up with and look forward to meeting you back here on Wednesday when I will be hosting the linky party for:
Doors and Porches

So, hang that wreath, string those lights, brush the snow off that doormat and get ready to link up your fabulous outdoor spaces!
Oh, and did I mention I’ll have giveaways? Winking smile
See you around the Block and thanks for joining me today at the Fence,

I like your idea of just wrapping a boxwood garland around the grapevine wreath! What a simple, yet good, idea. Like your copycat vase, too. I need to get this decorating done. I am definitely late this year. Too much work and not enuf time to “play!”

Beautiful, Vanessa! I love how the cranberries pick up the cranberry color in your lamps. I had no idea Walmart had a bunch of fresh greens ~ I will have to remember to get a bunch next time I’m there. I love the smell. Your wreath is great, too! I was looking for boxwood garland to use this year to make little wreaths for the backs of chairs and cabinet doors.

I just went to make my mid-morning protein shake a I just went to make my mid-morning protein shake and grabbed a banana out of the freezer and was about to put it into my shake before I realized it was a frozen egg roll. Sooooo that's how my day is going so far! 🤪How about you?

It's honestly fairly representative of my state of mind these days as I can't seem to make the date on the calendar match the date in my spirit because it feels like it should be January 45th. Every year this month drags on and every year it seems to surprise me for some reason. In addition, my heart just feels heavy as I witness a lot of darkness and sadness around me. So, I'm choosing to control what I can control by making my house feel as cozy as possible, relishing the sunshine whenever it dares to peek through the clouds, gathering inspiration for warmer weather projects and, most importantly, resting in the comfort of the sovereignty of my Father.

“God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’ So that everyone he has made may know his work..." Job 37:5-7

The sun decided to make another appearance today! The sun decided to make another appearance today! It’s been such a lovely Sunday. Chocolate croissants for breakfast followed by church then naps/football/reading/etc and soon we’ll be heading out to dinner with friends. These are my favorite kind of weekends. Hope yours has been lovely too! 🌿
Yesterday was stormy and cold but today the sunshi Yesterday was stormy and cold but today the sunshine is breaking through the fog and my house just seems happier. We definitely needed to see that light streaming in through the windows and it’s a gift I don’t take for granted.

And yes, there are still twinkle lights on my mantle because those help when the sunshine goes away again. ✨
Happy weekend! The rainy and gloomy weather here i Happy weekend! It’s time for TIP TUESDAY! This week, I’m offe It’s time for TIP TUESDAY! This week, I’m offering a gentle reminder from my own parenting experience after feeling my heart pricked with conviction about what was waiting for my daughter every day after school. I hope it will encourage you! 🌿#tiptuesday
The day after Christmas I found myself laundering The day after Christmas I found myself laundering and folding all of the linens we used the previous night as we hosted my husband's side of the family for dinner and other festivities. As I laid out each cloth napkin and folded them one by one, I couldn't help but be struck by what a simple, yet meaningful, task it was. It's such an honor and privilege to be the hostess and, at this stage of my life, I realize that this has almost one hundred percent become my role now. Our parents are in their 70's and have either downsized significantly or simply don't have the energy to take on hosting duties for a large group. I could resent this. I could feel overwhelmed by it. But, instead, I'm choosing to embrace it knowing that, someday, I too will pass the hosting torch and I hope that I will be welcomed with love and attentiveness. So, I fold the linen napkins, taking pleasure in the way all of the creases line up and how neat and tidy they look in the drawer of my dining room buffet. These seemingly simple chores are part of the lifeblood of homemaking and my attitude towards them can either be one of gratefulness or grumbly-ness (yes, I'm making up words now).

And I’m choosing gratefulness.

“This job has been given to me to do. Therefore, it is a gift. Therefore, it is a privilege. Therefore, it is an offering I may make to God. Therefore, it is to be done gladly, if it is done for Him. Here, not somewhere else, I may learn God’s way. In this job, not in some other, God looks for faithfulness.” (Elisabeth Elliot⁣)
