I’m not an impulse person by nature.
I just heard the collective sarcastic reply from my family and friends.
“Oh really, Vanessa? We didn’t know that about you!”
Ha ha.
But we all have those moments.
You know the one…when you are on the phone with your sister and you walk into your downstairs bathroom and the wallpaper you put up only a few months ago in the inner sanctum (toilet area) which is a room with no windows inside of another room with no windows, has finally put you over the edge.
It never really stuck properly and you could see all of the texture from the walls through it.
It just wasn’t quite right.
And then, you reach out one little finger towards a corner and start picking….and picking…and picking…and before you know it…your floor is covered in wallpaper strips and you are left with the aftermath.
Ummmm…now what?
Well, no time like the present to try my hand at making picture frame molding!
Enter my miter saw and $10 worth of molding.
Ahhhh…now we’re getting somewhere. Lighter and brighter already!
I absolutely love the look of wainscoting and this “faux” version was so simple.
If you know how to miter a corner, you can totally do this.
I did it in one afternoon and have never been more proud of little white boxes in my life!
But still…something was not quite right.
The shower curtain, as pretty as it is, still made this space feel dark and enclosed.
Well, that is an easy fix! Just switch them out for the brighter plaid curtains hanging in the office.
But, now that mirror is looking too dark.
One thing leads to another, right?
Now we’re getting somewhere! Found this beauty at TJ Maxx and she jumped right into my cart.
Funny how that happens, huh?

Some of you saw this on our Facebook wall, but for those of you who didn’t, my son projectile vomited all over this entire room over the weekend. We’re talking dripping walls, baseboards, floor, shower curtain, magazines, rug…he showed no discretion.
Except that when he was finally done he stood up and said, “Wow Mom, I didn’t get any on my shorts!”
Ahhh…boys.
While I was at it, I decided to swap out the plate rack for something a little bit more substantial.
These botanical plates were just the thing!
And, well, I couldn’t just stop with this room now could I?
Here is a sneak peek of the next space to which my miter saw showed no mercy!

First, I laughed.
I needed a laugh this morning, and you gave it to me. I feel the EXACT same way about the wallpaper I put in my powder room. It’s on the list, now. It’s just behind the living room and dining room. (Or at least the dining room.)
I love your solution(s). It all looks just wonderful. I am actually contemplating the picture molding for my dining room. What a coincidence. I said considering… I might chicken out. Mitre saws are above my pay grade, and the husband is NEVER home any more.
No. Don’t try to talk me into it. You don’t know my pay grade. Trust me.
Poor basket! Hope your son is better! That happened to a lot of my stuff when my son was younger, he was a pro at it, most of the time in the car! The molding looks great!

Looks great, Vanessa! I think the plaid goes better with your wall color, too. Love the round mirror! You are good mitering corners and all that woodworking lingo! : ) I had to laugh at the peeling the corner of the paper. I did that in our powder room because I just had to see how easy it was going to come off.

So is it really not hard to cut the mitered corners? I’ve wanted to try this, but I’ve been chicken. Bawwwkk, bawk bawk bawk, Baawwwkkkk! (That’s my imitation of a chicken’s voice.)

Vanessa, it looks wonderful. I can’t believe you can make those panels. You gave me my laugh for the day talking about picking that wallpaper. Love the mirror and of course the shoewer curtain becaused I used the exact fabric to make one for one of my baths. It’s great fabric.
