10 Must Do’s at The King and Prince!

If you’re looking for the perfect getaway, you don’t have to look any further than St. Simons Island on the coast of the great state of Georgia! Since moving to Georgia, I’ve been amazed at how many gorgeous vacation spots there are within driving distance, and St. Simons Island and The King and Prince Resort top them all! Surrounded by white sand beaches and live oaks, St. Simons Island is the biggest of Georgia’s Golden Isles.  It’s like going to the Bahamas but you don’t need a passport or to win the lottery. 😉

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner I thought it would fun to list 10 Must Do’s at the King and Prince Resort  for couples, or really anyone, to experience! I recently had the privilege of touring this gorgeous resort and I can’t wait to share with you some of my favorite things to do.

K&P 2014 Aerial

First, a little background on The King and Prince.   The historic King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort (circa 1935) recently experienced a long-awaited renovation.  It’s a fresh, contemporary take on the relaxed easy-going vibe that visitors have come to love about the King and Prince!

The newest member of the Southern Living Hotel Collection, a carefully selected series of the most delighted different and completely Southern hotels. The King and Prince is on the National Register of Historic Place and a member on Historic Hotels of America, shares a rich legacy of its place in American history for 79 years.  Originally opened as a private dance club, friends of the owners coined its name, which befitted its regal atmosphere.  The resort has maintained its reputation as an elegant and warm place to get-away throughout each decade.

Here are 10 things you must experience at the King and Prince for an experience you won’t forget!

An Ocean Front Room

King and Prince Hotel Room

If you’re going to do it….you might as well do it right! While every room at The King and Prince is a treat, there’s nothing quite like staying “beach side” in one of their Premium Ocean Front Cabana Rooms!  I had the privilege of staying in one of these gorgeous rooms during my visit.  From the luxurious bed to the cozy sitting area to your own private patio, the cabana rooms are rest and relaxation personified.

King and Prince Room View

With views like this, and your own personal swing, it’s tempting to want to stay “room side” for your entire visit!

 Massage

Royal Treatment Massage

The setting is a historic beach cottage on the resort grounds just steps from the sands and sea breezes of the Atlantic. Here an intimate seaside retreat has been created where the utmost attention is given to experiences that soothe and treatments that rejuvenate.

The front porch, with its comfy chaises, invites you into the calming atmosphere inside, where the casual warmth and refreshing decor of a quaint beach cottage are right at home with its indulgent and therapeutic elements. A fireside relaxation lounge, changing cabanas, and quiet treatment rooms all ensure a tranquil experience. And while at The Royal Treatment Cottage for their treatments, guests enjoy the use of robes, sandals, and totes for personal belongings. Complimentary bottled water is provided with the juices and teas available.

Pool

King and Prince Pool

The pool at a resort says so much about a location.  The pools at the King and Prince say, “come put your feet up and relax!” Because of the mild year round temperatures on St. Simon Island, it’s possible to enjoy the pool and it’s surroundings all year long.  With the pools close proximately to the beach you can enjoy pool/beach side dining, read your favorite book in one of the comfortable lounge chairs….

King and Prince Cocktail

or enjoy a favorite cocktail while people and boat watching! Be sure to see “Bartender Chad” and tell him Heather sent you for one of his fabulous margaritas! yum!

ECHO Restaurant

You don’t have to look any further than the King and Prince for the St. Simons BEST and ONLY Ocean front dining! The newly opened ECHO, aptly named after the use of the facility during World War II for the radar used on the island, serves classic coastal cushions and handcrafted cocktails in a relaxed atmosphere.  Whether choose to dine beachside….

ECHO - Patio

or in the gorgeous coastal designed dining room, you will be treated to a first class culinary treat! Chef John Palacio’s local first philosophy and longstanding relationship with coastal farmers and purveyors creates a one of a kind menu.

ECHO Oceanfront. Food. Drink.

We experienced this first hand with Southern favorites such as Shrimp and Grits and beautiful multi course brunches!

ECHO - Bar

After dinner head over to the ECHO Bar where a fabulous staff of bartenders is waiting to serve you your favorite cocktail.  Or, let them recommend some of the local favorites.  A relaxing place to hang out and meet new friends, you can have your drink bar side, pool side, beach side or by the fire!

Fireside

ECHO entrance, bar and living room sm___Lightbox

The lobby Atrium welcomes guests to sit by the fireplace and warm themselves. Grab a favorite cocktail from the ECHO Bar in the summer or some coffee or hot chocolate on a chilly winter night and share stories from your day’s adventure with other hotel guests that will quickly become friends!

Or maybe you’d like to snuggle outdoors around one of the fire pits located poolside.  Either way, you’ll be making warm memories fireside!

Beach Walks

King and Prince Beach

What’s a trip to the beach without at least one leisurely beach stroll, or two….or three.  Take a moment to feel the white sand between your toes and breathe in the fresh salty air!

Bike Riding

Go ride a bike! While cars are allowed on the island, the leisurely pace of life on the island is conducive to bicycling around St. Simons.  Leave from The King and Prince and bike your way to plantations, the lighthouse and Christ Church, originally built in 1820.  With 14 miles available it’s the perfect way to get in some exercise while stopping frequently to take in the gorgeous scenery!

GOLF

King and Prince Clubhouse

For some people…i.e. my husband, it’s not a true vacation without a little golf thrown in! The King and Prince Golf Course recently celebrated its 25th Anniversary.  Mr. Rick Mattox, General Manager and Head Golf Professional since 1990, has over 4o years experience as a PGA Professional!

Hole 12

An 18-hole golf course, it includes 4 salt marsh island holes and is easily accessible to players of all ages and handicaps.

Hole 14 Green

I had the privilege of attending the media event with Larry Berle, author of “A Golfer’s Dream.”  For more specifics on the King and Prince Golf Course be sure to read his reviews of the course here and here.

Tennis

tennis courts overhead view

With two outdoor courts, there’s no excuse to not get in some sunshine and exercise! The courts at the King and Prince are complimentary for resort guests and St. Simons’ natural beauty is the perfect backdrop. The resort has a tennis professional on staff to help you improve your stroke. Mr. Pride Evans offers private and group lessons on the resort’s har-tru tennis courts.  He is a seasoned tennis professional with over 25 years of teaching and instructional experience. For more information on tennis lessons contact Mr. Pride at The King and Prince!

As you can see there are plenty of things to do at The King and Prince, whether you want rest and relaxation or you want to be “on the go!” Stay tuned as up next I’ll share 10 Must Do’s on St. Simons Island!  Have you ever visited St. Simons Island or The King and Prince? I’d love to hear about your getaway!

It’s time again for Tip Tuesday! Would you belie It’s time again for Tip Tuesday! Would you believe that a few years ago I found a sock in our pantry? Yes, a sock. Just there on the shelf next to the cereal. But did it stress me out? Nope! We got a good laugh out of it especially after it was claimed by its owner (my teenage son) and it was a reminder to me of why the daily mayhem of life doesn’t overwhelm me because I’ve already established areas in my home that remain clutter free and offer me a visual exhale. #tiptuesday
Yesterday on the way home from school I had the ra Yesterday on the way home from school I had the radio tuned to my daughter's favorite station and a song that was playing had a line in it that really stood out to me. It made reference to a 'season of the sticks' which I think its safe to say must mean winter. I thought that was such an accurate, albeiet kind of depressing, picture of this time of the year. While we definitely have more than our fair share of evergreen trees here in Oregon, we also have plenty of trees and bushes that are reduced to sticks during the cold months. But, this morning as I looked out my kitchen window, greedily sipping from my mug of coffee, I marveled at the beauty of the winter sunrise. The sky was all pinks and oranges with frost on the rooftops and a little bit of fog. And, I realized that part of why it was so amazing is because I could see it more clearly through the sticks. The bare branches allowed me a view that I wouldn't be able to see if those same branches were covered in leaves. Being stripped down to almost nothing revealed something magnificent. We have seasons of the sticks in our lives too, don't we? Times when we feel as though we've been stripped bare and left exposed. It's easy to think that this is a place where all is ugly and dark. And yet, just like the winter sunrise was more visible because of the bare branches, the vulnerability we feel in the winter season of our souls allows us to get a glimpse of beauty that we wouldn't see otherwise. In the lush, warm seasons it's so easy to become comfortable. But in the bare, cold seasons we recognize just how much we need to rely on the One who placed the stars in the heavens and is sovereign over all.If you feel like your soul has been stripped bare and you've been left exposed and vulnerable, may I encourage you today to ask the Lord to help you to see the beauty in this 'season of the sticks'.“Answer me quickly, O Lord! My spirit fails! Hide not your face from me, lest I be like those who go down to the pit. Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul." Psalm 143:7
I just went to make my mid-morning protein shake a I just went to make my mid-morning protein shake and grabbed a banana out of the freezer and was about to put it into my shake before I realized it was a frozen egg roll. Sooooo that's how my day is going so far! 🤪How about you? It's honestly fairly representative of my state of mind these days as I can't seem to make the date on the calendar match the date in my spirit because it feels like it should be January 45th. Every year this month drags on and every year it seems to surprise me for some reason. In addition, my heart just feels heavy as I witness a lot of darkness and sadness around me. So, I'm choosing to control what I can control by making my house feel as cozy as possible, relishing the sunshine whenever it dares to peek through the clouds, gathering inspiration for warmer weather projects and, most importantly, resting in the comfort of the sovereignty of my Father.“God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’ So that everyone he has made may know his work..." Job 37:5-7

The sun decided to make another appearance today! The sun decided to make another appearance today! It’s been such a lovely Sunday. Chocolate croissants for breakfast followed by church then naps/football/reading/etc and soon we’ll be heading out to dinner with friends. These are my favorite kind of weekends. Hope yours has been lovely too! 🌿

We definitely needed to see that light streaming in through the windows and it’s a gift I don’t take for granted. And yes, there are still twinkle lights on my mantle because those help when the sunshine goes away again. ✨

The rainy and gloomy weather here in the Willamette Valley has me feeling less frustrated about my migraine forcing me to just snuggle up indoors and these flowers in my kitchen are lifting my spirits. It’s time for TIP TUESDAY! This week, I’m offe It’s time for TIP TUESDAY! This week, I’m offering a gentle reminder from my own parenting experience after feeling my heart pricked with conviction about what was waiting for my daughter every day after school. I hope it will encourage you! 🌿#tiptuesday
The day after Christmas I found myself laundering The day after Christmas I found myself laundering and folding all of the linens we used the previous night as we hosted my husband's side of the family for dinner and other festivities. As I laid out each cloth napkin and folded them one by one, I couldn't help but be struck by what a simple, yet meaningful, task it was. It's such an honor and privilege to be the hostess and, at this stage of my life, I realize that this has almost one hundred percent become my role now. Our parents are in their 70's and have either downsized significantly or simply don't have the energy to take on hosting duties for a large group. I could resent this. I could feel overwhelmed by it. But, instead, I'm choosing to embrace it knowing that, someday, I too will pass the hosting torch and I hope that I will be welcomed with love and attentiveness. So, I fold the linen napkins, taking pleasure in the way all of the creases line up and how neat and tidy they look in the drawer of my dining room buffet. These seemingly simple chores are part of the lifeblood of homemaking and my attitude towards them can either be one of gratefulness or grumbly-ness (yes, I'm making up words now). And I’m choosing gratefulness.“This job has been given to me to do. Therefore, it is a gift. Therefore, it is a privilege. Therefore, it is an offering I may make to God. Therefore, it is to be done gladly, if it is done for Him. Here, not somewhere else, I may learn God’s way. In this job, not in some other, God looks for faithfulness.” (Elisabeth Elliot⁣)
