When I was in middle school I was invited over to a friend’s house for a Halloween party. As soon as I arrived I was quickly ushered downstairs to the basement.
This should have been my first clue.
Nothing good comes from a group of middle school kids hanging out in a basement. 😉
We were informed that we were going to be watching a Halloween movie called, “Friday the 13th” and seeing as how I really wanted to fit in with this group of kids I sat and watched it with them.
I think the scariest thing I had watched before this point in time was Scooby-Doo!
I had nightmares about it for the next 10 years. Maybe longer. No joke.
So, when it comes to Fall/Halloween decorating in my house I tend to steer clear of anything spooky and focus more on embracing all beauty that nature has to offer this time of the year!
For this weeks 5 Minute Craft I’m going to be showing you how to make Gold Gilded Leaf Plate. It’s lovely and simple and not even in the slightest bit frightening!
Here’s all you need to get started:
This could not be any easier! Just gently brush the gold (or silver) gilding liquid onto the front of the leaf. Allow it to dry for at least 2 minutes.
Then, apply Mod Podge to the back of the leaf and attach to the plate. Allow to dry for 3 minutes.
Then, either put one plate on a plate stand or group them together like I’ve done here around the mirror in my entry.
Sigh…I just love when projects come together so quickly and easily.
And when they don’t make me have visions of Freddy Krueger!
P.S. Be sure to come back tomorrow for our BRAND NEW SERIES: At the Picket Fence Parade of Homes. You won’t want to miss it!
This is gorgeous! I love being able to use what I have outside to make something beautiful inside.
Thank you Cheryl!
What a great idea. It looks beautiful in your entryway. I agree with you – I steer clear of scary as much as possible.
Glad to know I’m not the only one Judy! Thanks for coming by friend! 🙂
I have a few stories about being young and watching scary movies with my friends. I usually got to know their moms well because I would leave the room as soon as it started getting bad and go hang in the kitchen with the mom 🙂
I still hate commercials for scary movies!
these plates are darling. What a fun way to use gold leaf!
Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Ashley Rane Sparks
LOL Ashley! I remember having to go to the bathroom a lot when the scary parts were on so I could hide out! 😉 Thanks so much for coming by!
Vanessa
Stupid question – can I get the leaf and Mod Podge off when the season is over?
Hi Linda! Not a stupid question at all! So I ended up having to re-do one of the plates and I was able to just scrape the leaf off and use a scrubby sponge to get the mod podge off but it took some effort. Not sure I would ever actually eat off of that plate! LOL!
Love this idea, Vanessa! I am so WITH you on the scary movie scene. 🙂
Have a great day rock star!
karianne
Thanks sweet friend!
These are lovely! and a great tutorial! I agree 100% on horror movies and ironically Halloween is one of my favorite holidays!
I’m with you!! Never liked those movies. I do nature things, as much as I get anything done. We’re packing up MIL’s apartment and boy, what a treasure trove! She decorated for every season, holiday. I digress. Beautiful craft. Saw it on Google +. I’ll bet it would be great with some smaller leaves in there, too.
Janet
Very pretty and easy! The leaves look like they are falling! I’m not a spooky lovin’ gal either. Pumpkins and bats are as wild as I get!
Hey Vanessa!
I might just try this, but use gold spray paint…think that would work? (I already have that on hand)
Love all your ideas!!!!!!!,
Brenda Scott
Hi Brenda! I think that as long as you used a leaf that wasn’t too dry and you didn’t spray too closely it would definitely work! Thanks so much for coming by! 🙂
