What led to your decision to start your own small business?

My business evolved gradually from very part time, when my children were young, to full time now that my youngest is in high school. I would have to say it began from a continuous desire to create.

 From where do you draw inspiration for your products?
Inspiration can come from anywhere at anytime. I especially love it when a chain reaction occurs and several ideas blend together to create a new design.  


What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment as a small business owner? 

The smile on a client’s face when they see their new window treatments, or new pillows, or new bedding…whatever the project may be…is my greatest – ever evolving – accomplishment.

What is one of the challenges you face as a small business owner?
On the days I work from home, one of the biggest challenges is balancing house & home with work. I can easily ignore the dishes and the laundry when I have a client project to finish. Probably a bit too easily! But summers are more difficult when I’d rather be doing something with my family.

What advice would you give to someone interested in starting their own business?
If possible, do something you’re passionate about. Something you love. Then it’s never a job or a chore. It’s a love.

    I’ve checked out “The Shop Beyond the Screen Door” and WoW! so many great things! It’s hard to choose when I want one of everything. Buuuuut, since I can’t have one of everything, I would like either the “Burlap/Scrim Tree Skirt” or the “Lissa Pillow Cover”.
