It’s safe to say that I’m a fairly passionate person. I feel all of the feelings and I feel them a lot of the time. This passion contributes to my sense of justice and fairness and rightness. And, until recently, I thought I was just this way when it came to people but something happened a few weeks ago that made me realize I can be just as passionate about other things…namely, sofa tables.
They always say that it’s when you aren’t looking for something that you will actually find it. So, it made perfect sense that I would find the perfect sofa table for our family room when I wasn’t really looking for a new sofa table.
We have a Tuesday Morning right next door to our Trader Joe’s. This is either really great or really bad depending upon who you ask…me or my wallet.
So, one day, after loading up on fresh flowers and sparkling wine and salami and the little cocoa sticks my kids like and all of the other randomness that one gets from TJ’s, I popped over to Tuesday Morning just to take a quick peek.
I made my way to the back of the store, intending to just look at the rugs, but as I turned the corner I spotted it. It was standing there so proudly, like it had been just waiting for me to take notice of it.
But I didn’t buy it. I didn’t really NEED a new sofa table. Even a beautiful French Country sofa table. So, I walked away.
But, that French Country sofa table needed me. I mean, it must have because it kept coming to my mind over and over again throughout the day.
And as I looked around the family room and breakfast room I realized that by selling one piece and switching out some other pieces, that sofa table really would be perfect.
So, the next day I headed back over to Tuesday Morning hoping, willing, it to still be there. I booked it to the back of the store and there it was. Sigh…it had waited for me.
I needed help to get it to the front of the store so I reluctantly left the table there and went in search of a sales clerk.
When we got back to the table, there was a lady standing there. I recognized the look in her eyes. She wanted it.
Her hand rested lightly on one corner of it. I put my hand on the opposite corner of it.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” she said. “Yes, it is.” I replied. “It would look so great in my entry!”, she said. “Oh it’s going in my family room as a sofa table.”, I said. She stared at me. I stared at her. The sales clerk watched amused. For a moment, I had visions of me lying on top of the table as she tried to drag it out of the store.
But, thankfully, no such dramatic encounter occurred. Instead, she congratulated me on my great score and I encouraged her to ask the store if they could locate another one for her.
Whew!
I hauled it home and was so thrilled to see that my instincts had been right and it really was the perfect addition to our family room.
And, thankfully, my passionate nature didn’t cause me to have to lie on top of it while fighting off it’s admirers.
Who knew buying a sofa table could be so risky?! 😉
Thanks so much for meeting me at the fence today,

Perfect! Love your table, it was meant to be yours.
Close call. Glad you nabbed it (just in the nick of time)!
That is just hilarious! What’s worse is if you see what you want in another person’s basket!
Oh I love it and it’s perfect. I have similar one but a wood top, it’s quite old.
So glad that the lady didn’t get snippy about it. It’s a great treasure.
Happy hunting.
