Merry. Holly. Joy. Peace…all words that conjure up feelings of Christmas. For some reason I am drawn to NOEL. Maybe it’s because it’s the French word for Christmas. Maybe because it first entered our language when my ancestors were still speaking in Middle English, one of my favorite literary periods.
Whatever the reason may be, I just love the meaning and like to incorporate it in my Christmas decorating. You might haven seen my NOEL sign in my pantry, and I felt like the front porch needed some “noel” as well.
What perfect way to initiate myself with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint than this fun holiday project. Big enough to get a feel for using the paint, small enough not to feel overwhelmed.
Kathy from Petticoat Junktion, a Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint distributor, graciously sent me three colors to try out as long as some of the lovely waxes.
Three lovely colors. Tricycle, Shutter Gray and Lucketts Green. They come so beautifully packaged you almost hate to open them up!
I don’t have a complex tutorial on the best way to use this paint, but it’s truly a test it out and try it process. It’s so very forgiving. Kathy enclosed some great instructions and there are also some fabulous tutorials on the web.
Here are some step by step photos of how to make my NOEL Sign:
I promise this isn’t a crazy complicated process, it couldn’t have been easier and I really like how it turned out.
I am so glad I gave milk paint a try! I am even ready to tackle my first furniture piece. I will definitely be ordering more Milk Paint from Petticoat Junktion. I am so motivated now, after reading Miran’s book, “Inspired You”, and I can’t wait to start transforming my finds into treasures!
We’d love to give YOU a chance to read Miran’s book as well. Kathy has given us a copy of Inspired You to give to one of our readers! You can enter here or click on the image below, there’s still plenty of time!
Be sure to join us later this afternoon for Inspiration Friday and I wish you a very Joyeux Noel!
