Would you like to know why I decided to make the easiest burlap wreath ever?
Well, you see, I have this little problem. It happens to me every year around this time. It’s called “woo-hoo-it’s-summer-I’m-going-to-get-tons-of-projects-done-but-wait-my-kids-are-home-and-I-don’t-have-time-after-all-and-I-just-want-to-watch-them-play-and-sit-and-read-a-book” itis. Do you suffer from that too?
I have BIG aspirations of getting all of these things checked off my list.
I’m going to clean all the blinds in the house! Hasn’t happened.
I’m going to sort through the kids clothes! Nope.
I’m going to organize the wrapping paper and gift bags. Hahaha! Good one!
I’m going to give the playroom a makeover…well…that one is sorta kinda started.
I’m going to give the kids’ bathroom a makeover. Oh wait! We can check that one off the list!
And I was going to make the most fabulous of summer wreaths! It was going to be covered in seashells and you were going to oooohhhh and aaaahhh over it and tell me how much it looked like something from Pottery Barn or Ballards and I would get out my little list and look at the words “make a fabulous summer wreath” and put the grandest check mark of all check marks next to it!
But then, life happened. Or actually, summer life happened. You know how it goes? We’re swimming and traveling and camping and playing with friends and hanging out in the backyard till it gets dark and eating lots of popsicles and having ice cream birthday parties and going to the park and just…well…enjoying these fleeting moments.
So, I didn’t make a fabulous wreath covered in seashells.
Nope. I waited until the middle of summer to finally take my spring wreath off the front door.
Then I dug out a grapevine wreath from the attic, attached a big, loopy burlap bow to it and hot glued one solitary starfish to it.
Every time I look at it I think it looks like a fancy lady wearing a scarf with a brooch pinned on.
And that is how I came to make the easiest burlap wreath ever.
It might not be covered in beautiful seashells which I’ve collected from all of my sea-side vacations.
Or from Wal-Mart.
It might not be the best, most loopy burlap bow ever made.
It might not look like something from Pottery Barn or Ballards.
But it only took 10 minutes away from the time I’m spending just enjoying summer with my family.
And that’s pretty fabulous, don’t you think? 😉

It’s fabulous Vanessa! And the best part is – besides the fact that it’s so stinkin’ cute – is that you spent way more time with your family! I’m in the middle of my biggest 2 weeks of the year with wedding sewing – and my middle daughter asked me last night why I work all the time! She said ‘we used to play games’. now she was exhausted and she gets very whiny and lays on the guilt thick when she’s tired, but I know I need to spend some time with them when this huge deadline is past!!!
Should I tell you I haven’t had a wreath on the door in months? I had one for the fourth but I haven’t been able to decide what I want or find the time to make it. I’m just waiting for fall!
That wreath is so adorable! I love it!
The wreath is so very cute Vanessa…and every minute spent with your children is one more minute of memories that last forever…
This is very sweet! I actually did a similar wreath this week that I thought was easy- but yours is even easier… and soo cute! https://thesouthernstateofmind.blogspot.com/2013/07/oyster-hysteria-oyster-souvenier-wreath.html
I think your wreath is awesome!!! The floppiness of the loops is perfection!!! Can I tell you a secret?….I have summer “itis” too and I don’t have kids at home anymore! LOL! Enjoy your babies!!~~Ang
I think your wreath is FABULOUS, and I featured it on Friday Finds. Pottery Barn, eat your heart out. Thanks for sharing, and I hope you have a wonderful fun-filled weekend! 🙂
