Wouldn’t you agree that there isn’t much in life that can’t be tied back to Anne of Green Gables? This must be why I couldn’t make a plum puff pastry tart without thinking about Anne Shirley and her desperate longing for a dress with puffed sleeves.
Did you know there is a National Pie Day? Did you know it’s tomorrow! There is actually a WHOLE day to celebrate the goodness of PIE!
What is it about pie that conjures up images of home and warmth and grandma’s kitchen table? [Read more…]
Good morning, it’s me, the apple picker from redheadcandecorate.com. Did you go apple picking yet this season? We went 2 weeks ago and picked 4 1/2 bushels. Here we are trying our favorite kind…Empire. They are crisp, juicy, tangy, tart, and sweet. Store bought ones are sometimes okay this time of year, but if you ever go apple picking, try them.
So…why all the fuss about apples?
Summer in Oregon is just absolutely glorious. We are rewarded for enduring the days of rain with beautiful sunshine and blue skies and here in the Willamette Valley it feels like we are getting to experience a little slice of heaven.
Farm stands pop up overflowing with every kind of summer fruit or vegetable you could possibly want and the berries…oh the berries. Sigh…they are so magnificent they almost make me ache. Ok, actually my stomach does sometime literally ache from eating too many of them but they are just so tempting!
And in our family, blackberries are a particular favorite. Around here they are put in yogurt, cereal, pies, popped into your mouth as you’re walking past the bowl and most of all, turned into blackberry cobbler.
I have a confession to make. And I hope you still like me and want to be my friend and will still sign my yearbook after you hear it. 😉
I don’t really like cake all that much. Gasp! And if I had my druthers (seriously one of my favorite words ever!) I would rather have a bowl of cereal as a treat than a bowl of ice cream.
Which leads me to my next confession.
I love baking. Honestly I WAY prefer it to cooking. This might have something to do with the fact that anything I bake is received by my family with joy and gratitude as opposed to the meals I cook each night which, frankly, are always a bit like a shot in the dark. Sometimes they hit their target and sometimes they are so far off from the target you would think that I was purposely trying to torture them.
I always find it fascinating how many different interpretations there are of the word ‘fancy’. What seems ‘fancy’ to one person might just be an everyday occurrence to the next. For example, I’ll never forget when I started buying what I think of as the ‘fancy’ napkins. No, they aren’t the ones with the pretty designs on them or the ones that cost $10 for a pack of 5. Those would be the really ‘fancy’ napkins. We don’t want to go too crazy here people!
Hi there, At The Picket Fence friends! It’s me, Claire, from A Little CLAIREification, and I am so excited to be here.
I recently had the great pleasure of meeting Heather and Vanessa in person at the SNAP conference a couple of months ago. They are just both so beautiful, inside and out, and I am thrilled to be part of the ATPF contributor team.
Here are a few quick juicy tidbits about me before we jump in:
I am a working Mama to three amazing boys and I love bringing my readers “bright ideas on a budget”. Many of those ideas involve food since I love to cook and bake so much. I am admittedly addicted to cheese (I am not ashamed) and I also hoard washi tape and Sharpie markers in every color known to man.
It’s all true.
